TNZ signs online travel partnership geared to Chinese FIT market

Tourism New Zealand’s criteria for online travel partner selection were based on their performance in China’s FIT market, the existence of dedicated internal product teams and their willingness to promote self-guided tours in New Zealand.

Tourism New Zealand has selected its first FIT online travel partners in China marking the occasion with an official signing ceremony in Shanghai this week.

David Craig, Tourism New Zealand General Manager Asia says: “Over the 2015-2016 period, we’ll work with our eight chosen partners to enhance the experience for Chinese tourists taking independent trips to New Zealand, namely Qyer.com, Ctrip.com, Qunar.com, Alitrip.com, ly.com, Booking.comWoqu.com, and baicheng.com.

Over the past two years there has been a significant increase in demand for independent travel to New Zealand from China. These independent visitors prefer to search for and access the latest travel information – then make quick and convenient travel bookings – through online channels.

Tourism New Zealand’s criteria for online travel partner selection were based on their performance in China’s FIT market, the existence of dedicated internal product teams and their willingness to promote self-guided tours in New Zealand.

Tourism New Zealand’s strategy is to combine the FIT online travel partnership with its Premium Kiwi Partnership, which promotes quality group travel to New Zealand.

The two approaches will complement each other to provide an enhanced overall travel experience for Chinese visitors in New Zealand, thereby promoting the development of the tourism industry in New Zealand,” says David.

FIT visitors are often experienced travellers who have high expectations for their trip and prefer flexible itineraries and self-drive. They also stay longer, visit more regions, and spend more than traditional group tours.
