Tourism New Zealand celebrates South-East Asia

To help quip agents to maximise the strong growth in New Zealand holidays, Tourism New Zealand held a training roadshow across four countries in late August and early September.

SINGAPORE – Holiday arrivals from South East Asia to New Zealand have grown significantly over the past 3 years with Singapore increasing 36%; Malaysia 85%; Indonesia 76% and Philippines 208% (year ending July 2018 vs year ending July 2015).

Steven Dixon, Tourism New Zealand’s Regional Manager-South and South-East Asia, said: “South East Asia continues to be an important source region for New Zealand visitor arrivals. Our core markets in South-East Asia have all shown strong growth over the past three years, and we are excited about the future potential.”

To help quip agents to maximise the strong growth in New Zealand holidays, Tourism New Zealand held a training roadshow across four countries in late August and early September.

The training roadshow saw a series of events held in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines over a two-week period. A delegation of 26 tourism operators from the New Zealand industry including accommodation, regional tourism organisations, airlines and activity representatives participated.

Registration for the events was very strong, indicating robust interest in New Zealand from the trade. In total more than 350 frontline agents attended destination training sessions, and 176 agency owners and managers attended networking events during the roadshow.

During the roadshow Tourism New Zealand and Air New Zealand launched a competition in conjunction with the 100% Pure New Zealand Specialist programme, a training platform which improves travel seller’s knowledge of New Zealand and helps increase sales of New Zealand holidays.

The new competition offers travel sellers across the region the chance to win one of 50 places on an all-inclusive familarisation in April 2019. For the chance to win travel sellers need to complete 10 of Tourism New Zealand’s online modules and sell at least five pax on qualifying FIT fares with Air New Zealand before 18 November 2018.
