Business events industry throws weight behind Australia’s newest venue

The business events industry has thrown its weight behind Australia’s newest venue – the Melbourne Convention Centre. The centre is the jewel in Australia’s business events crown – featuring high end architecture, large light open spaces, and such extensive innovative environmental design features that it holds the world’s first ‘6 star green star’ environmental rating for a convention centre. Located in South Wharf, central Melbourne, the Melbourne Convention Centre opens its doors for business on 22 June.

Industry leaders, who were given a sneak preview of the venue, have applauded the centre calling it “magnificent”, “stunning” and “exceeding world class”. Event Planners Australia general manager Suzanne Best says it was a “momentous introduction to a spectacular venue.” She says her team are “singing the praises of the centre.”

ICE (International Conferences & Events) Australia managing director Christine Dorner says she too has been raving about the new venue. “I have spread the word to staff and services about the state of the art facilities at the MCEC – they are amazingly advanced and will definitely enhance meetings in Melbourne.”

Professor Leo Jago, Director of Victoria University’s Centre for Tourism and Services Research says the centre has already become “the envy of the nation.” Director of DC Conferences Dianna Crebbin says it is “really a magnificent building and will be a great asset to Melbourne.”

The new centre is fully integrated with the Melbourne Exhibition Centre creating Australia’s largest convention and exhibition district.

Already 50 major international conventions and a predicted 190 national conventions, meetings and large seminars have been won for the centre between 2009 and 2015, bringing more than 270,000 delegates to Melbourne, injecting hundreds of millions of dollars into the Victorian State economy.
