Following on from what represents its best month of business since July last year TMS Asia Pacific CEO Andrew Chan has said the increased activity in May could well be a sign that market confidence is slowly starting to return.

Mr Chan said many companies who had scaled down their workforce in the latter stages of 2008 are now returning to the recruitment specialist to ask for help in finding additional staff. “We’ve definitely seen a pick up in business with the May business posting one of our best months for quite some time and the forward demand for June looking equally strong” he said. “Sales staff in particular are in big demand as companies look to expand their sales teams in order to increase revenue in anticipation of a market recovery. We’ve also seen a pick-up in demand for the hospitality industry as Singapore gears up for the opening of the two mega Integrated Resort openings. But we are keeping our feet very firmly on the ground and watching the situation very closely. While there may be light at the end of the tunnel at long last, our optimism, as the situation demands, remains cautious.”

Mr Chan’s comments echo those made by several senior regional economists and analysts who foresee a recovery in Q3.
