Wego: number one travel app in Indonesia on iTunes

Wego’s travel app features easy, gestured navigation, advanced filtering and sorting options, clear and concise images, a highly optimised logic for lower data and battery consumption and the convenient option to email travel search results to a friend, or for subsequent booking at a later time.

JAKARTA – Indonesian mobile users have spoken. Wego’s recently launched iOS travel app (also available for android) is now rated number one in Indonesia by the iTunes App Store.

A convenient extension of the popular travel search platform, Wego’s free travel app has been designed to instantly provide users with hundreds of airfares and hotel rates available online in 20 languages (including Bahasa Indonesia), on one, simple to use app.

Since our entry into this market in 2011, we’ve witnessed firsthand how passionate Indonesians are about travel, social media and travel related content. We knew the next step was to provide access to all of the best flights and hotel options through a mobile device to effectively serve this insatiable travel audience,” remarked Graham Hills, Managing Director, Wego Indonesia.

Wego’s travel app features easy, gestured navigation, advanced filtering and sorting options, clear and concise images, a highly optimised logic for lower data and battery consumption and the convenient option to email travel search results to a friend, or for subsequent booking at a later time.

Wego’s iOS app has placed in the top 10 travel apps in Indonesia over the past couple of months,” said Hills. “Travellers are now far more aware of the convenience that Wego provides. Local and international hotel brands, airlines, and online travel agents, are now incorporated into Wego’s enormous inventory comprising over 400,000 hotels and 700 low cost and full service carriers.”

The ability to search so many travel options which include familiar local travel brands all within one site is fairly unique in this country,” Hills continued. “We’ve developed trusted relationships with some of the local travel industry’s biggest brands, including our most recent partnership with national carrier, Garuda Indonesia.”

According to We Are Social as at January this year, around 80 million Indonesians were active mobile users; 95 per cent of users researched products on their smartphones, and 57 per cent made purchases through mobile. e27 reported just last week that sales volume results in the first quarter of 2014 saw Indonesian smartphone purchases reaching over 7.3 million units, a 25 per cent year on year growth. Currently Indonesia leads as the largest smartphone market in Southeast Asia with a 68 per cent sales increase in Q1 2014.

These figures will continue to grow along with internet penetration as it develops further,” added Hills. “Indonesians are also avid social media consumers. So many spend a great deal of time commuting and accompanied by notorious traffic jams, use the time to stay in touch with friends through their social networks. It’s also the perfect opportunity to research and share travel plans, especially with Lebaran approaching.”

We’re confident that Wego will become even more popular in this country, and Indonesians will continue to save time, pay less and travel more,” Hills concluded.
