Veteran’s hotel Bayview Georgetown opens again after refurbishment

The recent US$ 4 million refurbishment of Bayview Hotel Georgetown Penang brought the historical hotel again in the forefront.

PENANG- Built and founded in 1969 by the late Tan Sri Loh Boon Siew, the original Bayview Hotel Georgetown was previously known as Merlin Hotel before it began its expansion in 1986. It gained then immediate fame due to the Island’s first and only revolving restaurant. In 2007, the hotel underwent another name change, this time being rebranded Bayview Hotel Georgetown Penang in 2007.

Strategically located in the heart of George Town, the 16-storey high hotel is near to Penang commercial hub with its shopping malls, entertainment, food and cafes’ outlets. It is also in the immediate vicinity of most historical and cultural landmarks of Penang. The hotel’s 333 rooms and suites have recently been upgraded or refurbished at a cost of RM11 million (US$ 4 million). The City Bayview Georgetown offers today various room types ranging from standard to grand deluxe. It also proposes family room and junior suite while the premier floor has been upgraded to a Premier floor with premier deluxe, premier grand deluxe and premier suites.

All the rooms have been redecorated and fixed with new furnishing, new beds, carpets and interior decorations. The Premier Floor accommodation has the interior redesigned and restyled to natural earth tones with matching soft linens and the exclusive access to the hotel’s new Premier Lounge. The 350sq m Premier Lounge that overlooks the spectacular view of the Straits of Malacca is located at the highest floor of the hotel. It offers breakfast, all-day refreshments and afternoon tea, free usage of computer with Internet facilities, reading room, shoe-shine service and private usage of Premier Boardroom with no extra charges.

City Bayview Georgetown famed Revolving Restaurant gas also been renovated and serves a wide range of buffet dinner spreads of local and international cuisine. Situated at the rooftop level, this restaurant is a landmark of Penang and it offers diners a beautiful view of George Town, Komtar (Penang’s tallest building) and the Penang Bridge (Malaysia’s longest). “The Revolving Restaurant is not only a landmark of Penang but also a venue where most Penangites have their fondest memories. It is a very unique restaurant to take the family to enjoy or for couples having a romantic rendezvous, savouring an excellent range of good food served with a changing view,” said Edwin Yap, area general manager of Bayview Penang.

Other food and beverage outlets include Kopi Tiam Coffee House and Waka Japanese Restaurant.
