Macau emerges as one of Asia’s leading meetings destinations

The Venetian Macao opens Australia Pacific office

Proving its might as Asia’s leading leisure, business and entertainment destination, The Venetian Macao’s meetings, incentives, conventions, and expositions business is experiencing rapid growth in 2010 and shows no signs of slowing down. Total MICE group business has grown by 42% year-on-year from 2009 while thirty-three trade shows have been confirmed for 2010, up 22% since 2008. The Venetian hosts over 30 corporate and leisure groups at the property every month. Automotive, pharmaceutical, direct marketing, insurance and information and communication technologies (ICT) industries have been the highest performing sectors this year.

To keep pace with this rapid growth, The Venetian Macao is expanding throughout Asia to meet local demand. This week it opened an office in Sydney to service the Australia, New Zealand and Pacific markets.

“Australia and New Zealand are important markets for The Venetian Macao. With the opening of our office in Sydney, we now have someone in market that knows the culture and understands the needs of our local clients,” said Mr. Brendon Elliott, Vice President of Sales, The Venetian Macao. “Macao is an ideal destination for groups traveling from Australia and New Zealand. It’s easily accessible, affordable, and provides endless entertainment options for our clients. ”

Australian visitors travelling to Macau continue to grow with 82,000 Australians visiting Macau this year through to September according to the Macau Statistics Bureau. Australia is currently The Venetian’s 7th largest MICE market and has selected by many large Australian corporations as an incentive destination and regional meeting destination due to Macau’s central location in Asia and convenient entry to/from China.

Traveling to Macau is now easier than ever. CotaiJet™ has 102 ferry sailings per day to and from Hong Kong, Kowloon and Hong Kong International Airport. “Delegates can now reach Macao from Hong Kong International Airport in 45 minutes. Our ferries can accommodate up to 330 delegates and we’ll manager all of your group baggage so the next time your delegates see their bags after departure is when they arrive in their suite.” said Mr. Elliott.

The global recession affected MICE business throughout Asia and the rest of the world, but starting in early 2009 The Venetian Macao focused on strategies to target the markets and industries it believes yield the highest return; no doubt contributing factors to this year’s dramatically positive results.

“We are changing the way meetings and company incentives in Asia Pacific are organised,” said Mr. Elliott. “Our willingness and ability to accommodate any, and all requests from planners, in order to make their meetings and incentives experience unique and memorable every time is unsurpassed. And our service philosophy in attracting planners and delegates alike is simple…you decide what you want, and we’ll make it happen.”

The Venetian recently released its new Entertainment and Meeting Packages for groups of 20 or more – where our cast of 150 entertainers from singing gondoliers, magicians, jugglers, Broadway acts, singers and even “The King” Elvis himself can WOW your delegates every night and turn your next meeting into an unforgettable event. Companies that book by 31 December enjoy a complimentary 30-minute performance and round-trip Cotaijet ferry tickets for the entire group.

What Macau has to offer
Macau’s historical sites are a key draw for planners and delegates. The Venetian® Macao is located at the tip of southern China along Macau’s Cotai Strip – just 15 minutes from famous Macau landmarks such as the impressive ruins of Sao Paulo (St Paul’s), or the quiet beaches of Coloane.

It is a five minute drive from the Macau International Airport or Taipa Temporary Ferry Terminal. Macau is an ideal location for Hong Kong delegates with free visa entry for nationals from more than 75 countries and a quad-language nation of Mandarin, Cantonese, English and/or Portuguese spoken. The Venetian® Macao Resort Hotel’s CotaiJet service also offers direct one-hour ferry transfers for delegates from Hong Kong.
