The Top5 trending trips: Family Vacations, Honeymoons, Romantic Getaways, Birthday Celebrations & Anniversaries

Tripology announced findings from its newly published Fourth Quarter Travel Trend Report. New to the report this quarter is the “Top 5 Trending Trips” list – which provides terrific industry insight into the specific types of vacations consumers are now taking and seeking travel agent expertise to arrange. Some other interesting findings revealed by the research are several new cities that have made the top requested travel destinations lists, as well as a new all-time Tripology high in average consumer trip budgets.

Key findings of the trend report are as follows:

  • The Top Five Trending Trips: Family Vacations, Honeymoons, Romantic Getaways, Birthday Celebrations & Anniversaries.
  • The Top Five Most Requested U.S. Cities: Las Vegas, Orlando, Miami, Honolulu and Los Angeles. New U.S. cities to the top 10 list this quarter are Los Angeles, New Orleans and Phoenix.
  • The Top Requested Countries for Winter 2011 are: U.S., Mexico, Bahamas, Italy, Jamaica, U.K., and France.
  • The Average Consumer Budget is $5,786 per trip. This marks an all-time high in Tripology consumer trip budgets and a 20% increase from Q1 2010.

“We have added a new trending trip list to our report this quarter, to provide travel professionals with more valuable information on the specific types of vacations and special occasions that consumers are now looking to travel for,” said John T. Peters, Vice President and General Manager of Digital Strategy and Travel of Rand McNally. “For several major milestones such as honeymoons, birthdays and anniversaries, travelers are beginning to see the real value in being connected with a travel specialist and are willing to spend extra money on trips that commemorate these special occasions.”

Additionally, the Tripology Trend Report reveals the following stats:

  • A significant positive trend continues at for online consumers looking to be connected with offline travel specialists
  • Of Tripology’s top regions, Western Europe and Africa have shown a steady increase in demand from October through December.
  • The Tripology Trend Report is sponsored by the Association of Travel Marketing Executives, and is published quarterly by Tripology, a service of Rand McNally.
