Flights TG670 from Bangkok-Sapporo and TG671 from Sapporo-Bangkok on 7 September 2018 have been cancelled.
Thai Airways International Public Company Limited (THAI) announced that its flights from Bangkok-Sapporo, in Hokkaido, Japan, are cancelled until further notice due to the earthquake in Hokkaido, Japan.
Flight Lieutenant Pratana Patanasiri, THAI Vice President, Aviation Security and Standards, said that as a result of the earthquake that hit Hokkaido at 03.00 hours on the morning of 6 September 2018, several homes were damaged and a power outage occurred, followed by the temporary closure of New Chitose Airport. For passenger safety, all commercial airlines including THAI have cancelled flights to and from Sapporo. Flights TG670 from Bangkok-Sapporo and TG671 from Sapporo-Bangkok on 7 September 2018 have been cancelled. The Company is in close coordination with New Chitose Airport and will resume flights as soon as the airport reopens.
Normally, THAI operates five roundtrip flights per week from Bangkok-Sapporo. Flight TG670 departs from Suvarnabhumi Airport at 23.45 hours and arrives at New Chitose Airport at 08.30 hours on the following day (local time) and the return flight TG671 that departs from New ChitoseAirport at 10.30 hours (local time) and arrives at Suvarnabhumi Airport at 15.30 hours.
THAI Provides Bigger Aircraft and Employs Nagoya as a Hub to Transfer Stranded Passengers from Osaka
Mr. Wiwat Piyawiroj, Executive Vice President, Commercial, Thai Airways International Public Company Limited (THAI), said that on behalf of THAI as a national carrier, extends sincere condolences to people that were affected by Typhoon Jebi in Osaka. The heavy storm damaged houses and Kansai International Airport remains closed. THAI is concerned over the situation and has facilitated passengers as follow:
- THAI will waive fees for passengers holding roundtrip tickets on the Bangkok-Osaka routes during 3-15 September 2018 who request to reroute to other destinations in Japan which are: Tokyo (Narita and Haneda), Nagoya, Fukuoka, and Sapporo. Changes can be made within 15 September 2018 with condition applied.
- THAI employed Nagoya as a hub to transfer stranded passengers. Nagoya is the nearest flight route to Osaka which is convenient for passengers, as THAI operates 14 flights per week to Nagoya.
- THAI provided bigger aircraft on the Bangkok-Nagoya route to help transfer passengers during 6-7 September 2018.

THAI will closely monitor and assess the situation and normal flight operations will be resumed when Kansai International Airport is operational.
