Sydney Film Festival has a bright future in NSW

Destination NSW has announced its continued support for Sydney Film Festival, reinforcing Sydney’s position as Australia’s creative industries capital.

NSW Minister for Tourism and Major Events Adam Marshall said the NSW Government’s tourism and major events agency, Destination NSW, will support this year’s festival and has committed to funding the event until 2019.

This strategic investment is in addition to core funding from Create NSW and contributes to reinforcing Sydney’s position as the creative industries capital of the Asia Pacific while aligning with the NSW Government’s broader work to support film production in our State,” Mr Marshall said.

Sydney Film Festival is a key cultural event on the NSW Events Calendar and takes place annually against the backdrop of Vivid Sydney, further amplifying the city’s profile as a creative hub at a time when it shines under the global spotlight.”

Sydney Film Festival Chief Executive Officer Leigh Small said Sydney Film Festival is one of the world’s longest-running film festivals and the only event of its kind in Australia with an Official Competition endorsed by the International Federation of Film Producers Associations – further raising the festival’s significance internationally.

65 years young, Sydney Film Festival takes its place among the very best film festivals in the world and we look forward to continuing to work with the NSW Government to showcase the most exciting work that cinema has to offer, while celebrating excellence in film from Australia and around the world,” Ms Small said.

Destination NSW Chief Executive Officer and Vivid Sydney Executive Producer Sandra Chipchase said, “In 2018 and 2019, the Sydney Film Festival will continue to collaborate with Vivid Sydney to deliver the ‘Sydney Film Festival presents…’ talk series as part of the Vivid Ideas program, which attracts leading filmmakers and experts to NSW to speak about their work.”

The 65th Sydney Film Festival will take place from Wednesday, 6 June to Sunday, 17 June 2018. The full program will be announced on Wednesday, 9 May.
