Starwood Hotels & Resorts to debut Four Points by Sheraton hotel in Indonesia

Slated to open in first half of 2015, Four Points Makassar marks Starwood’s entry onto Sulawesi Island.

MAKASSAR, Indonesia – Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. announced that its fast-growing Four Points® by Sheraton brand will debut in Indonesia. Developed by IMB Group, Four Points by Sheraton Makassar is scheduled to open by May 2015, and will mark Starwood’s entry onto the island of Sulawesi.

As Southeast Asia’s largest economy and the world’s fourth most populous country, Indonesia is one of the fastest growth markets for Starwood, and we look forward to opening our first hotel in the capital of South Sulawesi province,” said Chuck Abbott, Regional Vice President, Southeast Asia, Starwood Hotels & Resorts. “With its premier positioning ‘Comfort isn’t complicated’, Four Points Makassar will provide a foothold for Starwood’s continued growth on this island.”

Four Points has more than 180 hotels open in more than 30 countries worldwide, and has the second largest pipeline among all Starwood brands. The brand delivers stylish design and provides an uncomplicated, friendly approach to hospitality and service – all at a great value.

Four Points Makassar is strategically located at Jalan Landak Baru, in the heart of Makassar’s developing new business district. The hotel will feature two towers with a total of 261 guestrooms. Upon completion, the hotel is expected to have the largest convention center in Makassar with its two ballrooms and 16 meeting rooms, totaling a meeting space area of approximately 6,500 square meters. Additionally, the hotel facilities will include a swimming pool, full-service dining, a fitness center, and a variety of other amenities such as free WiFi, free bottled water and free coffee, all amenities that make the Four Points brand a favorite with travelers worldwide.

We are delighted to partner with IMB Group to expand our footprint onto Sulawesi Island,” said Matthew Fry, Senior Vice President, Acquisition & Development, Asia Pacific, Starwood Hotels & Resorts. “As Indonesia’s sixth largest city and a gateway to the Eastern Indonesian islands, Makassar has strong demand for business travelers and meetings and, on the leisure side, with a population of 1.3 million, the hotel will also become a great destination for dining and wedding celebrations.”

Idris Manggabarani, Chairman, IMB Group, said “We are very pleased to partner with Starwood, an international leader in the industry as we bring this globally recognized brand to Makassar, a burgeoning business and leisure hub in the East Indonesia. Starwood’s arrival in Makassar underscores that good investment climate in Makassar, and IMB Group’s commitment to bring hospitality standards to the next level.”

Starwood currently operates 14 properties in Indonesia under six of the company’s nine distinct lifestyle brands including: St. Regis, W, The Luxury Collection, Sheraton, Westin and Le Meridien. The company will expand its portfolio in the country with 10 properties in the pipeline including the opening of The Westin Ubud Resort & Spa on the island of Bali this year.
