Singapore Merlion and Fullerton Hotel settle down in Malaysia

Two iconic monuments of Singapore, the Merlion statue and the Fullerton Hotel will now be located in Johor Bahru…

NUSAJAYA– A Merlion across the Strait in the Southern Malaysian state of Johor Bahru? These will be only reproductions at Malaysia’s first international theme park, Legoland Malaysia, which will open officially on Saturday, September 15, 2012. The park managed by UK company Merlin Entertainments Group will offer more than 40 rides and attractions – from roller coasters to race cars as well as family-focused interactive shows. One of the Park’s highlights will be Miniland, a place where iconic monuments from 17 different countries will be on show. For Singapore, Lego chose the iconic Merlion and the Fullerton Hotel as they fit well into Lego bricks. The models are built on a scale of 1:20.

Some 50 million of Lego bricks are being used to create models for the park. Legoland Malaysia is the sixth Lego-style theme park to be built in the world and the very first in Asia. Targeted at families with children between the ages of two to twelve years, Legoland Parks are based on the universally popular Lego construction toy range. They offer families the opportunity to bond, learn and push the boundaries of their imaginations through Lego experiences. At Legoland, families can practice their imagination and creativity, have fun while learning, and understand the importance of caring and quality.

For the inaugural, Merlin Entertainments Group will provide for a limited time tickets offering a discount of 30%. The British company expects to welcome one million to 1.2 million visitors to Legoland Malaysia during the first year of operation.
