Asia Pacific`s leading luxury hotel group, Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts, staged a groundbreaking ceremony to announce it will open a new hotel in Shenzhen city in China at the end of 2007. Shangri-La Futian, Shenzhen is one of the 25 additional hotels the group will open through to 2007, to complement the current portfolio of 17 mainland China hotels, including the existing 553-room Shangri-La Hotel, Shenzhen.

Situated in the Pearl River Delta near Hong Kong, Shenzhen is one of China`s three special economic zones and home to one of China`s major international ports. It is also recognised as the first city in China`s history to implement a progressive policy of openness to foreign

influences. Shangri-La Futian, Shenzhen is located in Futian district, the city`s new central business district, and is a 30-minute drive from

the airport, making it an ideal location for domestic and international business travellers.

Designed by Hong Kong-based Wong & Tung International, the hotel will feature 596 guest rooms and 51 serviced apartments, with a minimum room size of 48 square metres. Hotel guests will be provided the full array of Shangri-La amenities, including 24-hour room service, same day laundry and valet service, satellite TV, data ports, as well as broadband and wireless internet services. The seven-floor, 99-room Horizon Club will offer a host of special amenities and privileges such as private meeting rooms, express check-in and check-out service, in addition to an exclusive club lounge for daily breakfast and cocktails.

Shangri-La Futian, Shenzhen`s dining and entertainment options will include a coffee shop, speciality restaurant and bar, Chinese restaurant and rooftop restaurant and bar. Its meeting and banqueting facilities will include a 2,000-square-metre grand ballroom, one of the largest in the city, as well as a 500-square-metre junior ballroom and a 280-square-metre auditorium. The hotel`s business centre will serve the

needs of business travellers while recreational facilities will include a health club, tennis court and Shangri-La`s signature CHI spa whose treatments are based on Chinese and Himalayan healing concepts.

Shenzhen has shown significant economic growth over the past decade and has positioned itself as an important business hub in the Pearl River Delta. Our new hotel in Shenzhen will cater to the increasing demand for luxury hotels. This opening also demonstrates Shangri-La`s strong commitment to maintain its position as the largest luxury hotel group in China, said Giovanni Angelini, Shangri-La`s chief executive officer and managing director.
