During the National Tour Association (NTA) road shows in Shenyang and Dalian, China, the Guam Visitors Bureau (GVB) met with the Dalian Holy International Travel Service Company, Ltd. The meeting confirmed a 152-passenger Dalian charter, which will arrive on Guam during Chinese New Year on January 23, 2012.
Holy International Travel Service Company, Ltd. is a national franchise agency for Chinese citizens. A pre-inspection team arrives on Guam October 28, 2011 to see all that Guam has to offer for Dalian visitors.
“Visitor numbers from China to Guam experienced an increasing month-to-month trend last fiscal year, ending with a 32% increase over fiscal year 2010,” General Manager Joann Camacho said. “Dalian Holy International Travel Service’s charter flight will add additional access for Chinese visitors to Guam and we are excited to be hosting them as they experience our warm Hafa Adai Spirit.”
Dalian, located on the Liaodong Peninsula in the bay of Korea, is the principal marine gateway of Northeastern China and home to about six million people. Home of the largest deep water port in Manchuria, Dalian handles roughly 70% of the region’s cargo and 90% of the region’s container transportation. In addition to being a crucial port city, Dalian is set to host Intel’s most advanced wafer fabrication facility in Asia. With a total investment from Intel of around US$4 billion, the facility has been earmarked to become the largest foreign high-tech investment in all of China.
The Dalian Municipal Tourism Administration of Dalian City and Guam Visitors Bureau signed a tourism cooperation agreement on February 15, 2003, pledging to support and enhance tourism efforts, as well as exchange information related to traveling to Guam.
“This particular charter will bring some of Dalian’s most affluent citizens to enjoy a five-day Guam tour package and is exactly the kind of market segment we strive to attract. It also further embeds Guam’s desired brand reputation in the market,” GVB Marketing Manager Pilar Laguana said.
Since 2008, there have been 2,690 China charter seats to Guam with an average local spend of $4,982 per Chinese traveler on Guam, or $1,246 per day. In September and October 2011, a total of 762 passengers arrived on five charter flights from Shanghai and Beijing to enjoy Guam’s pristine waters, rich culture, and luxury shopping during their holidays. This is a significant increase from the 145 China charter seats in 2008. GVB recognizes the enormous value of promoting Guam to Chinese travelers and hopes to increase interest among Chinese Travelers.
