General Director of the VietNam Administration of Tourism Vo Thi Thang expressed the willingness of its country to learn from Malyasia on practices concerning marketing and promotional issues in the tourism field. Mrs Thang had the chance to highlight these ideas when she received visiting from the Malaysian Minister of Tourism Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor in Ha Noi on July 3.

She is amazed by the growth of Malaysia’s tourism industry and requested assistance from the Malaysian ministry to train Vietnamese officials to develop, administer and manage the tourism industry and promote their country, Tengku Adnan told reporters after the meeting.

At the meeting, Malaysia requested Viet Nam to consider increasing the frequency of flights from Ha Noi and Ho Chi Minh City to Malaysia.

According to Tengku Adnan, who is heading a Malaysian delegation to promote the Visit Malaysia Year 2007 in Viet Nam, there are currently only 21 weekly flights from Malaysia to Viet Nam and 11 flights on the opposite route. We hope the number of flights can be increased so that more people from Viet Nam come to Malaysia and vice versa, he said.

Malaysia welcomed more than 14,200 Vietnamese tourists in the first quarter of this year as compared to 11,350 in the same period last year. The country is expected to attract 100,000 Vietnamese tourists this year and 200,000 during the Visit Malaysia Year 2007 period.
