Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre wins big at culinaire Malaysia

The Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (the Centre) has been awarded the Most Outstanding Team at the recent Culinaire Malaysia 2009 competition. In being awarded the highest recognition for the Culinaire Malaysia 2009, the Centre managed a total tally of 6 gold, including one gold for Chef’s Gourmet Battle challenge, 11 silver, 22 bronze medals, 11 diplomas as well as Most Outstanding F&B Personnel Award which went to bartender Saufi Paujian. This is also the second time that the Centre has clinched the Most Outstanding Team award since its first participation in 2005.

“To be recognised as the top team by a panel of internationally recognised chefs in two out of our three appearances at the Culinaire Malaysia is a truly remarkable achievement and a testament to the dedication, professionalism and creativity of our team,” said Mr Brokenshire.

Touted as the Olympics of the Malaysian culinary world this year’s edition of the prestigious competition saw 868 participants battling it out in 33 competition categories which are scrutinised by a total of 54 local and international World Association of Chefs Societies (WACS) judges.

“The Centre’s achievement at Culinaire Malaysia 2009 is an affirmation of the team’s philosophy of ‘Practice, Practice, Practice’. This win will motivate us to even greater heights and we already look forward to raising the bar further at Culinaire Malaysia 2011,” said Richmond Lim, Executive Chef of the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.

The biennial Culinaire Malaysia serves as a national platform for professionals, apprentices and students to compete alongside their peers. It is jointly organised by representatives of the national hospitality industry, namely Malaysian Association of Hotels (MAH), Chefs Association of Malaysia (CAM) and Malaysian Food & Beverage Executives Association (MFBEA) in conjunction with Food & Hotel Malaysia. This is the third time that the Centre has hosted Culinaire Malaysia which is held in conjunction with Food & Hotel Malaysia.
