Korea announces dates for its “Grand Sale 2013”

SEOUL- Sales are one of the most attractive events for tourists in Asia as shopping remains at the top of their favourite activities. Korea is no exception and announced recently dates to its “Korea Grand Sale 2013” which will take place from January 11 to February 28, 2013. The shopping festival will offer special benefits and discounts (10-50%) to all visitors to Korea .

The Korea Grand Sale 2013 will be held in areas most visited by foreigners in Seoul and its greater metropolitan area as well as Gangwon-do, Jeju and across the country. The festival aims to foster shopping and tourism by offering foreign visitors discounts and diverse special offers on shopping, lodging, food, beverages, art performances and more. Major department stores, duty-free shops, retail outlets and convenience stores across the country are participating, making this third festival the largest in scale so far, and providing a wide variety of discount benefits and special gifts.

Also, 50 top-class hotels across the country will offer “3+1” or “4+1” benefits following the “One-More-Night Promotion”, where foreign visitors will be provided with a free additional night for their stay. The participating hotels will also offer various discounts on foods and beverages to foreign guests during the Korea Grand Sale period.

The Sale is organized by Korea Tourism authorities to stimulate the holiday low season. The Grand Sale has a strong impact on the economy. In 2011, the sale generated additional foreign currencies revenues of US$ 17.53 million. But total revenues generated by inducement effect are estimated to be superior to US$ 200 million.

A total of 77 businesses and 21,800 sole-proprietorships participate in the 2012 Korea Grand Sale, which was organized by the Visit Korea Committee and sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism
