Increased interest in emerging destinations from Asia Pacific markets

Luxury travel agents and buyers from across the Asia Pacific preparing to visit ILTM Asia (Shanghai, 13-16 June 2011) are reporting that emerging destinations such as Myanmar (Burma) or Cambodia are of increasing interest to their elite clients.

Whilst under house arrest in 2002, Burmese Opposition Politician Aung San Suu Kyi commented, “We have not yet come to the point where we encourage people to come to Burma as tourists. We hope that as things change, Burma will become the kind of country that will be even more of a pleasure to visit than it is now.”

Now welcoming visitors, much of Myanmar’s appeal to luxury travellers lies in the way it has been unaffected by modern developments. A unique destination, the country attracts an increasing number of high-end visitors with its colonial properties such as Orient Express’ Governor’s Residence in Yangon and growing number of boutique, hotels across the country. Orient Express will profile The Governor’s Residence for the benefit of the hand-picked travel agents at ILTM Asia and also its world reknown Road to Mandalay luxury cruise, which leaves from the royal city of Mandalay in Myanmar to accesses the unique sights, scents and sounds of the country in incredible style and luxury.

Travelling south to the ancient capital of Bagan, with its 2,500 pagodas spread across a dusty plain, the cruise also heads north through deep forests to Bhamo near the Chinese border. There is no more pleasurable way to experience Burma—to feel its pulse, meet its people, live its legends and understand its history.

Cambodia too has long been a destination known for its rich cultural heritage and extraordinary history. One of the most unspoiled coastlines anywhere in South East Asia, the country is increasingly popular for its clear waters and abundant sea life.

Song Saa Island Resort is an ultra-luxurious and intimate collection of villas located in Cambodia’s untouched Koh Rong Archipelago and due to open in November 2011, is also taking part in June’s ILTM Asia to initiate a close relationship with the Asia-Pacific luxury travel market.

Song Saa Island Resort and Orient Express’ Governor’s Residence and The Road to Mandalay are just two of 400 elite travel experiences invited to be profiled at International Luxury Travel Market (ILTM) Asia in Shanghai, 13 – 16 June 2011. The event is only for the most discerning of travel buyers and agents from across Asia-Pacific to source the newest and the best in luxury global travel experiences from other emerging and established destinations located across the world, for the benefit of their clients.
