ICC Sydney benefits from AEG Ogden’s global reach and reputation

International Convention Centre Sydney (ICC Sydney) is capitalising on the success of the AEG Ogden network of venues.

As Group Director of Convention Centres for AEG Ogden, ICC Sydney CEO Geoff Donaghy has oversight of the strategies and management issues of nine of the world’s leading convention and exhibition centres, including AEG managed Los Angeles and Hawaii facilities.

Although each venue is run independently, the ability to share experiences and intelligence allows AEG Ogden to develop better venues and more knowledgeable teams.”

The transfer of intelligence across the Group is ultimately about one thing; to better understand client needs,” Mr Donaghy said.

Many of the nineteen major international events Business Events Sydney has secured for ICC Sydney, which opens in December 2016, have previously been hosted in AEG Ogden centres, which makes knowledge sharing across the Group invaluable to the ICC Sydney team.

For example, the two most recent announcements for ICC Sydney have been held in AEG Ogden managed centres; in 2010 the World Congress of Accountants was hosted by the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre and the International Chamber of Commerce World Chambers Federation (ICC WCF) Congress met in Kuala Lumpur in 2009 and Qatar in 2013.

Further demonstrating AEG Ogden’s strong track record is the success of the recent G20 Leaders Summit and Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors Meeting at AEG Ogden managed venues the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre and Cairns Convention Centre.

In reality, someone somewhere across the Group has faced a problem and found a creative or innovative solution that we can all draw on to prepare clients for success.”

Our ability to share knowledge across management teams allows us to solve problems faster and understand clients better,” Mr Donaghy said.

Another important component of being a member of the AEG Ogden Group is the trusted reputation that accompanies this status.

A message I never tire of hearing from our clients, and one I am always proud to receive, is that they are in safe hands at an AEG Ogden venue.”

Clients can be assured of a successful event in all of the Group’s world class venues; although bespoke to each destination, every event receives the same world class quality of service, venue presentation, availability of leading technology and exceptional hospitality across the network,” he said.

AEG Ogden is a joint venture between Australian controlled venue management interests and AEG Facilities of the United States. AEG Facilities is a stand-alone affiliate of the Anchutz Entertainment Group (AEG), one of the leading sports and entertainment presenters in the world. Standout venues across AEG include the Barclays Center (Brooklyn), Estadio Maracana (Rio De Janeiro), MercedesBenz Arena (Shanghai), Staples Centre (Los Angeles) and entertainment districts LA Live (Los Angeles) and The O2 (London).

The breadth of our global network is unparalleled in the business events industry as is our ability to tap into learnings and leads from related industries such as international standard entertainment and sports facilities,” concluded Mr Donaghy.

AEG Ogden manages Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre, Cairns Convention Centre, Darwin Convention Centre, Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, Sydney Exhibition Centre @ Glebe Island as well as two centres currently under development; Oman Convention & Exhibition Centre and International Convention Centre Sydney.
