Hungarian Culture Week will debut in Beijing at Tianqiao Theater from September 8, featuring performances of the work of Franz Liszt and patriotic poet Petofi Sandor.

The China-Hungary convention on cultural cooperation was signed in July 1951. In October 1999, China hosted the first China Culture Week in Hungary, and in return, the Hungarian Culture Week will come to China this September.

According to the China Art and Entertainment Group (CAEG), the organizer, the Hungarian Culture Week will open with one performance by Hungarian National Dancing Ensemble and an exhibition of Hungarian puppetry. On September 10, two Hungarian troupes, namely: Romano Drom, and five-person brass band, will stage performances. Romano Drom has established fame for its strong gypsy flavor, and the members of the five-person brass band all graduated from the world`s renowned Liszt musical conservatory.

Apart from these performances, a painting exhibition of contemporary Hungarian artists like Gabor Rosko, Agnes Eperjesi, and Imre Bukta will be held in China`s Centennial Altar. From September 9, five Hungarian films that have won top international prizes will be displayed in a local theater at the city center.
