SINGAPORE – Hotel prices for the 2014 Formula 1 Singapore Airlines Singapore Grand Prix happening from 19 to 21 September 2014 have surged 75% week-on-week, according to data from travel site www.trivago.sg.
The final race night, Sunday, 21 September, proves to be the most expensive at an average of S$ 326. This is up 75% from the previous Sunday’s price of S$186. The cheapest night to book is on Saturday, 20 September, at an average of S$294.
A stay during the entire three-day race will cost visitors an average of S$305. The daily hotel rate for the whole month of September is S$240.
trivago spokesperson Haryati Afendy said: “Despite this considerable jump in prices, the silver lining is that race fans will be paying lesser compared to the same F1 period last year, when rates averaged a steeper S$381. The augmented supply of budget and mid-tier hotels this year may have cooled down price hikes fuelled by mega-events such as this.”
