DTCM wins first ‘Industry Award’ in Dubai

Dubai’s Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) won the ‘Industry Award’ introduced for the first time in Dubai by EuroCHRIE (The European Council or Hotel, Restaurant & Institutional Education). Mr. Ibrahim Yaqoot, Executive Director of Human Resources & Training Solutions received the award on behalf of the DTCM.

The award ceremony took place at the gala dinner of EuroCHRIE 2008 on the 15th October was part of the 26th Annual EuroCHRIE Conference that was held at Madinat Jumeirah from the 11th – 14th October 2008. The conference was inaugurated by HE Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Education. This is the first conference outside Europe since EuroCHRIE was established and was themed ‘Building a Legacy, Living the Dream: 2020 Vision for Hospitality and Tourism’.

The ‘Industry Award’ was given to DTCM in recognition of its efforts and success in promoting Dubai regionally and globally. The award was presented by Dr. Olgun Cicek, Vice President of the EuroCHRIE who said “The ‘Industry Award’ is being given for the first time outside Europe, and we decided to give it to DTCM for its contribution to the development of tourism and hospitality industry in terms of Marketing, Legislation, Education and Training in Dubai and being a leader in the tourism industry in the region”.

Mr. Ibrahim Yaqoot of DTCM who received the award thanked EuroCHRIE and said “DTCM was honoured to receive this award which showed the international position of Dubai and DTCM’s triumphant marketing strategies that have made Dubai one of the most important and attractive destinations of the World.” He further added, “The DTCM designs and conducts training programs for the different stakeholders and businesses of the tourism and hospitality sectors in Dubai in order to improve their performance and the overall tourism product of Dubai.”

EuroCHRIE is the leading international organization supporting education and training for the hospitality industry and the annual conference provides the ideal platform for members to share the research, best practices and ideas, and network at the same time. The 2008 conference attracted 250 delegates from around the world, including academics, educators, researchers, graduates, government and industry practitioners and leaders in tourism, hospitality and events sectors.
