Dragonair to operate direct flight to Yangon

YANGON- Hong Kong-based Dragonair will operate direct flight between China’s Hong Kong and Yangon, the commercial city of Myanmar on Jan. 9, 2013, official media reported Saturday.

The newly-launched flight is hoped to contribute to the development of recreation and economic relations between Myanmar and Hong Kong, said the New Light of Myanmar.

Dragonair, which is the internationally-recognized best regional operator, will be another foreign airline that extended wing to Yangon after Korean Air, Qatar Airways and Chinese Taiwan EVA Airways and All Nippon Airways (ANA).

Dragonair will operate the new service with Airbus A321 jets, departing Hong Kong every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.

The carrier, which is a subsidiary of Cathay Pacific, currently operates flights to 39 regional destinations.

Meanwhile, Myanmar’s national carrier, Myanmar Airways International (MAI), will also launch direct flight between Yangon and China’s Hong Kong before the end of this year.

Still there are three more foreign airlines –Singapore Airlines, Condor Airlines and Trans Asia
Airways are preparing to fly Myanmar in addition to the existing foreign ones.

In addition to the 64-year-old state-operated domestic Myanma Airways (MA), there are also five other private-run domestic airlines in Myanmar, namely Air Mandalay, Yangon Airways, Air Bagan, Asian Wings and Air Kanbawza.
