On 20 January in Belgrade, the International Hotel and Restaurant Association (IH&RA) awarded Captain Krishnan Nair, Chairman of The Leela Palaces, Hotels & Resorts, the “Hotelier of the Century” award. The award was presented by Dr. Ghassan Aidi, President of IH&RA and the event was attended by international leaders and industry luminaries, as well as representatives and members of the IH&RA from several countries.
Speaking at the ceremony, Dr Aidi said, “Captain Nair is an icon and a hotelier with a vision. The quality and service seen at The Leela hotels across India remains unparalleled and is a benchmark for luxury hospitality.”
Accepting the award, Captain Nair said he was humbled by the great recognition he had received from his peers in the hospitality industry. “I dedicate this award to the people of India and to Sonia Gandhi, under whose inspirational leadership India continues to achieve greater heights.”
This is only the second time in 140 years that this prestigious award has been presented. The previous recipient was Joseph Giacoponello, former President of the Leading Hotels of the World.
