Calicut is the new destination of SriLankan Airlines commencing on 1 July 2004. With the launch of flights to Calicut, SriLankan Airlines will have 66 flights to 10 cities in India, the others being Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore, Trichy, Trivandrum, Bodh Gaya, Kochi and Hyderabad. SriLankan intends launching flights to several more destinations in India in the near future. Calicut, also known as Kozhikode, is SriLankan’s third destination in the state of Kerala, after Trivandrum and Kochi.
SriLankan Airlines will make its entry into China in October 2004 with a thrice-weekly service to Beijing via Bangkok. The airline has recently launched SriLankan Air Taxis, a domestic air taxi service that uses an amphibious Cessna Caravan Floatplane to fly to six destinations in Sri Lanka, landing at airfields and some of the many lakes and lagoons around the country. The service is very popular with tourists, as it provides the convenience of hassle-free travel between resorts, and the low-flying aircraft gives them a breathtaking view of the panorama of the island known to visitors through the centuries as Paradise.
A “Fast Track” immigration channel is now in place at the Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB) for Business Class passengers arriving on all flights, in order to afford them greater convenience and rapid passage through immigration formalities. Business Class passengers now receive invitation cards on board from cabin staff, advising them of the Fast Track channel. When they disembark, they are escorted to the channel by staff of the Airport Service Department of SriLankan Airlines. The channel operates around the clock, 365 days of the year.
