Abacus wins TravelWeekly China ‘Best New Technology’ award

The unique award recognises Abacus as the mainland travel sector’s most outstanding technology enterprise.

SINGAPORE – At May 8 spectacular Gala Dinner in Shanghai for the 2014 China Travel & Meeting Industry Awards, Abacus received the ‘Best New Technology’ accolade. It is the seventh consecutive year in which the industry has voted the region’s travel technology company winner in the category.

The unique award recognises Abacus as the mainland travel sector’s most outstanding technology enterprise. It follows the company’s success in gaining the license to operate as a foreign global distribution system (GDS), as well as its integration of IATA’s first Billing and Settlement Plan for China earlier this year.

Ooi Chee Teong, General Manager for Abacus – China, receiving the award, said, “We are very grateful to all the travel agents, suppliers, customers and partners who voted for Abacus in the Travel Weekly China Awards. For us, travel management technology is about empowering travel agents, improving their productivity and the experience of their customers. It is wonderful to have those aims recognised and rewarded.”

TravelWeekly China readers voted for the ‘most outstanding product innovation and R&D’, with a ‘first-class product’ developed to achieve industry ‘competitive advantage’. ‘Outstanding treatment of consumers or partners’ was another component in the selection criteria, crediting the technology company’s pioneering mainland team.

The 2014 China Travel & Meeting Industry Awards were held at the Xintiandi Langham, Shanghai.
