A Golden Tulip blooms in Bangkok

Paris-based Louvre Hotels & Golden Tulip, which operates more than 1,000 hotels worldwide, launched its latest Bangkok property last night with an event that showcased the Golden Tulip brand “international standards and local flavours” with all the flair for which it is renowned. At 5:30pm Tuesday, the 24-storey former Radisson Hotel on Soi Saengcham, Rama IX Road in Huay Kwang officially became the Golden Tulip Sovereign Hotel.

Golden Tulip CEO Olivier Derycke is “delighted with the addition of the Golden Tulip Sovereign Hotel to our portfolio,” he says, “especially as it is our first hotel in the capital city of Bangkok, where our new regional office for South East Asia is located. It is thus of great importance to us strategically and we are very pleased to be associated with such a well-operated property and with the high standards of products and services it provides. The new hotel also compliments our Golden Tulip Mangosteen in Phuket and our soon-to-be opened Golden Tulip Mandison Suites on Sukhumvit Road. We look forward to a continuous and successful roll-out of our brands in Thailand and throughout the region.”

Guests at the Golden Tulip Sovereign be able to choose from 448 spacious guest rooms and suites with all the 4-star amenities and a few especially thoughtful touches like the clothes-drying hot-rail and oversized tub in the bathroom, internet-connected writing desk, and state-of-the-art Communication Centre System with touch-screen messaging that provides instant access to the complete range of hotel services. “While strategically situated adjacent to the expressway just 20 minutes from Suvarnabhumi International Airport with entertainment, shopping and business centres only a short walk away, the hotel gives guests good reason to stay right where they are,” says Vathana Paradorachai , Golden Tulip Sovereign’s Vice President, adding, “I am delighted to be associated with such a prestigious brand.”

For road warriors, the Business Centre offers a professional multilingual staff to attend to every need and – thanks to the extensive and exceptional selection of restaurants – catering choices that will delight every member of the team. With 12 fully equipped meeting and function rooms, and a lavish 690m2 ballroom suitable for both corporate and social galas for up to 900, the new Golden Tulip is poised to become the next talk-of-the-town venue. Throughout every get-together, the hotel’s catering and banquet professionals are on hand to assure that even the smallest detail exceeds guests’ expectations, and all staff have been thoroughly trained to provide the hotel’s signature Golden Carpet Service.

Wherever it goes, the brand incorporates ‘international standards and local flavours’ into its properties. This is reflected in the eight eclectic food & beverage outlets at the new Golden Tulip Sovereign Hotel, where guests may enjoy High Tea or an aperitif in the Lobby Lounge, have a draught or two at Blackie Sports Pub, satisfy their cravings for fresh-baked bread and pastries at The 92 Bakery, savour some of the best Cantonese in the city at Fook Yuan, treat their taste buds to the traditional Japanese at Nishiki, and re-discover our very own classic Thai cuisine with a panoramic skyline view at Tubtim Siam.

Bangkok’s newest hotel appears to have it all under one roof. With its Grand Opening last night, life became a lot easier for meeting and wedding planners as well as business and leisure travelers, and a lot better for devotees of the good life. And a Grand Opening it was indeed.

Hosted by Wave FM’s Michele Waagaard in the role of Master of Ceremonies, the well-known presenter introduced the various dignitaries and VIPs who spoke at the “Golden Tulip Blooms in Bangkok” event, including H.E. the Ambassador of the Netherlands to Thailand, Mr. Tjako Van den Hout; Mr. Mark van Ogtrop, Managing Director of Golden Tulip South East Asia; Mr. Luesak Pand-uthai, Resident Manager of the Golden Tulip Sovereign Hotel Bangkok; Mr. Derycke and Mr. Vathana.

Highlights of the event included a performance of Ennio Morricone’s Nella Fantasia by Ibycus and a special show performed by acclaimed Khon Master Pichet Klunchun representing the blooming of the beautiful and serendipitous Golden Tulip in Bangkok

The grand finale of this grand evening was a contemporary version of Don Quixote inspired by the link between the Khon version of the Ramayana and the Spanish folktale Don Quixote. The 15-minute piece was choreographed by the internationally renowned Philippe Saint Paul, best known to Bangkokians for his recent performance of KaTap at Patravadi’s Fringe Festival and Borealis for the International Dance Festival here.

It was fitting conclusion for an evening that amply reflected the French-Thai flair that is evident throughout every aspect of the hotel that hosted it, with entertainment worthy of the venue.
