TUI is to acquire a 49 percent holding in Turismo Asia Ltd., Bangkok, Thailand with effect from January 2006. It was agreed not to reveal the purchase price. TUI`s stake in Turismo Asia Ltd. will round off its agency portfolio in the long-haul sector and focus the World of TUI tour operator activities in the destination of Thailand.

Turismo Asia Ltd. emerged from the Turismo Thai Group, which was established in 1976. The family enterprise concentrates on the incoming business. The company also operates in the business travel segment as a TQ3 partner as well as in ticketing and in the Leisure Travel sector. Besides its central offices in Bangkok, Turismo Asia Ltd. has nine branch offices in the most important tourist zones as well as more than 19 offices in various hotels in Bangkok and on Samui. The company also has a fleet of seven buses.

Thailand is the biggest tourist destination in southeast Asia and over recent years has welcomed a continuously increasing number of international guests. Following the slump in visitor figures in the 2004/2005 winter season as a result of the tsunami the demand has now picked up again. It is expected that the number of people visiting the country will increase over the coming years.
