The challenges and opportunities that UK tourism faces with the granting of Approved Destination Status by the People’s Republic of China are the subject of the first meeting of the TSCG, to be held on 8th December at the Berners Hotel.

The meeting will give tourism businesses and operators an insight into this potentially vast and as yet untapped market. Industry experts will give delegates the opportunity to learn how they and their clients can rise to the challenge of meeting the demands and exceeding the expectations of the new Chinese market. Competition will be fierce and the UK must not miss out on their slice of the market.

Roy Graff, Director of CContact and guest speaker at the meeting says, “To understand the Chinese travel market we need to appreciate China`s modern economy and social structure but also her history and culture. To capitalise on the fantastic growth of this market, UK service providers need to fully appreciate both the benefits and limitations of the ADS policy”.

Chris Wikeley, chairman of the Tourism Society Consultants Group says, “The TSCG always tries to look at and tackle the issues of the day as they affect our members and impact on their clients. In recent months there has been much news about the expansion of the Chinese market across the world. The UK has to be ready to compete for this market and to attract the visitors, some probably travelling abroad for the first time, and ensure that the UK meets and surpasses their expectations”.
