JAKARTA, INDONESIA – Ahead of its official launch in May 2023, Celestia luxury Phinisi has unveiled the interiors of its two Owners’ Suites, which preview the overall interior design of the ship and set the tone for experiencing Indonesia and the Coral Triangle in style. Built by hand using UNESCO-protected methods, the traditional Indonesian vessel offers an authentic and unique approach to experiencing one of Earth’s most pristine and awe-inspiring places, including the storied islands of Raja Ampat, Komodo, and the Spice Islands. For interiors worthy of the majestic setting and iconic vessel, Celestia’s owners, Jasmine Chong and Jason Tabalujan, an Indonesian brother-sister duo, enlisted the best in the industry: the renowned Cape Town-based design studio, Deirdre Renniers, and naval architect Tresno Seery for the engineering.

The collaboration results can be seen in the first interior unveiling of the vessel’s Owners’ Suites on the upper deck. Each suite includes a private terrace with a daybed and a spacious writing desk with panoramic views of the ocean. A collection of books, curated according to each owner’s tastes, ranging from astronomy to poetry, from fashion to business, await travelers staying in the Owners’ Suites. Spaces have been designed for simple luxuries like diving into Pablo Neruda’s odes to the sea (Jasmine’s favorite) from the comfort of one of the many reading nooks, loungers, or in one of Indonesian designer Alvin Tjitrowirjo’s furniture creations.

The color palette of the interiors emulates the hues found in Indonesia’s awe-inspiring landscapes, natural beauty, and convergence of ocean and sky. Locally made tiles by Balinese artisans have been hand-glazed a soft blue to not compete with the ocean views. Duck’s egg blue plays with crisp, white linens and earthy decorative pillows on bedding accessories. Luscious teak and hand-woven rattan paneling in soothing earth tones provide an elegant setting for the soft glow of brass hardware, which hints at the old-world glamor and patina gathered by some of Jasmine and Jason’s favorite spaces in New York City and Jakarta (the former NoMad Hotel, Yale Club, etc.). In Celestia’s windows, Roman blinds with leather tabs, custom-made to avoid rattling on a boat, provide privacy and escape from Indonesia’s glorious sunny skies.

Spacious rain showers, custom Roman blinds with leather tabs, and a collection of personally selected literary works are included in the Owners’ Suites.

White Carrara marble counters and Villeroy & Boch finishings complement the spacious, spa-inspired bathrooms crafted from teak. Luxurious Kohler rain showers and Japanese toilets with seat warmers round out the top amenities available in the Owners’ Suites.

As with all of Celestia’s accommodations, no small detail is overlooked in the Owners’ Suites. Accessories and amenities include local, hand-made Balinese ceramics and circular teak serving trays, which were handcrafted from Celestia’s wood offcuts and underscore the siblings’ approach to sustainability and championing local artisans and craftspeople.

The double-masted Celestia is scheduled to set sail in May of 2023.
