Marine Department launches security campaign in Pattaya

This campaign aims to improve marine security in Pattaya and Ko Larn (Coral Island), and it is considered to be a prototype project. The officials had researched about ways to improve marine security, marine safety and marine accident prevention.

PATTAYA – Mr. Pongchai Kasemthaweesak, Deputy Director of the Ministry of Transportation, Mr. Jula Sukmanop, Director of the Marine Department, and Mr. Worawit Saisupatpol, Vice Governor of Chon Buri, chaired the opening ceremony of the security campaign at the A-One the Royal Cruise Hotel Pattaya recently. This campaign aims to improve marine security in Pattaya and Ko Larn (Coral Island), and it is considered to be a prototype project.

The officials had researched about ways to improve marine security, marine safety and marine accident prevention. Activities of this campaign include a “Marine Safety Awards Presentation” presented to outstanding and standard boat operators in Pattaya-Ko Larn, as well as the exchange of 1,200 life vests to new and standardised ones.

At the same time, the Pattaya City Police Station has launched mobile units to inspect safety and eliminate crime in Pattaya and the vicinity. The operation aims to prevent any losses of both Thai and foreign tourists during the upcoming high tourist season. The operation covers Pattaya and the nearby areas and covers all attempts to render safety services to tourists.

Ms. Suladda Sarutilavan, Director of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) Pattaya Office mentioned that “Pattaya is one of the major tourist destinations in Thailand with a variety of tourism products. The destination welcomed more than 10 million tourist arrivals last year. The Marine Safety campaign as well as police mobile unit operation is a major and positive move to uplift its safety image.

Apart from security measures by these joint operations, Pattaya is also a pilot area to have a Tourist Protection Section under the Pattaya Provincial Court. Due to a large number of incoming tourists to the area, the amount of disputes has arisen. Such cases are unique as most tourists stay in each place for a short period of time. Therefore, it is necessary to provide a special section to implement such cases quickly and fairly,” Ms. Suladda added.
