Indonesia’s new tourism website targets the UK

Each destination page showcases fascinating things to see and do; how to get there; and practical details of the island's culture, cuisine and people.

JAKARTA – The Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy (MOTCE) for the Republic of Indonesia has launched a brand new tourism website dedicated to the UK market. The new site, tourism-indonesia.co.uk, is Indonesia’s first official destination site in the UK and reflects MOTCE’s commitment to its largest European source market and the potential it sees for growth from the UK to Indonesia with its many attractive destinations.

Designed to be an inspirational planning tool and source of news, the visually striking platform is packed with helpful information for those planning a tropical escape to the world’s largest archipelago (17,000+ islands and counting). Users will find informative island summaries of sun-kissed Bali, Sumatra, Sulawesi, Papua, Nusa Tenggara, Java and Kalimantan, the latter being home to the largest concentration of wild orangutans on the planet. Each destination page showcases fascinating things to see and do; how to get there; and practical details of the island’s culture, cuisine and people.

Other online features allow visitors to browse through photos and descriptions of Indonesia’s top visitor attractions including Borobudur, a UNESCO World Heritage Site as the largest Buddhist temple in the world; and Komodo Island, the only place on earth where the unique Komodo dragon can be found. There are also overviews of specialist interests, such as ‘Nature & Ecotourism’ and ‘Golf & Watersports’, together with pages offering useful information on tourist visas and everyday Indonesian-language phrases.

Additional pages featuring news from the destination and UK visitor statistics are particularly helpful for the travel trade, with regular updates posted to keep them and their customers up to date with new developments.

The launch of www.tourism-indonesia.co.uk comes in advance of Garuda Indonesia, the national airline of Indonesia, introducing the UK’s only non-stop direct flights from London to Jakarta. The inaugural flight is scheduled to operate on 29th May 2014, making beautiful Indonesia even easier to visit for UK travellers.

“We are delighted to unveil our brand new tourism website for the UK market,” comments Richard Hume, Country Manager for the UK market. “With Indonesia becoming more accessible to UK visitors from May, it is important that reliable information about this fascinating archipelago is easily accessible, too. Our new site aims to demonstrate how many attractions Indonesia has for UK travellers and just how rewarding a trip to this captivating destination can be.”
