Guam explores a new visitor market in Taiwan

The Guam Visitors Bureau recently attended the 2007 Taipei International Travel Fair and while in Taiwan, took advantage of the opportunity to meet with representatives in the travel industry and to make important new contacts. One of the most fruitful of these new contacts was the Chinese Taipei Diving Development Association.

The Chinese Taipei Diving Development Association is the organization that certifies divers in Taiwan, similar to the PADI or NAUI organizations. GVB was pleased by the opportunity to meet officials from the organization and to make a formal presentation about one of the world’s most beautiful diving destinations, Guam. During the presentation, the delegation shared stories of Guam’s many gorgeous diving spots, the incredible clarity of the island’s oceans, and that Guam is home to one of the world’s most unique diving spots.

Located in Apra Harbor, Guam is home to the only diving site in the world where diver’s can simultaneously touch shipwrecks from two different world wars. The SMS Cormoran, which sank during World War I, and the Tokai Maru, which went down during World War II, and came to rest beside the Cormoran, creating a one of a kind experience for divers. The Tokai Maru/SMS Cormoran dive site has been featured internationally and is well known in the global diving community.

“One of the most exciting aspects of attending the Taipei International Travel Fair this year was, of course, representing our beautiful island,” said GVB Marketing Manager Pilar Laguana, “However, we were also able to expand our presence by meeting with important organizations in Taipei, such as the Chinese Taipei Diving Development Association. GVB has never focused on the diving market out of Taiwan before and this trip enabled us to create strong interest in Guam amongst the diving community in Taipei.”
