Export tourism welcomes additional funding for industry

Mr Shelley said the focus on conversion of visitors and partnership marketing which includes airlines and wholesalers, will help to build momentum behind the in-market efforts of Tourism Australia.

The Australian Tourism Export Council (ATEC) welcomes the announcement from the Federal Government of an additional $60 million in funding to support the industry’s post Covid recovery.

This funding aligns with our budget asks and will help some of the most affected parts of our export tourism industry to re-boot and re-engage their international markets,” ATEC Managing Director Peter Shelley said of the announcement.

With its focus on Tropical North Queensland and other internationally focused regions which have been the most highly impacted due to their reliance on international visitors, this funding will bring together the cooperative strength of the industry in re-engaging our markets.

Mr Shelley said the focus on conversion of visitors and partnership marketing which includes airlines and wholesalers, will help to build momentum behind the in-market efforts of Tourism Australia.

“This announcement comes on the back of last week’s commitment to provide $75.5 million in support for our inbound tour operators and other agent businesses and will give the industry a much-needed boost as international visitors begin to consider Australia as their destination.

“Importantly, the Tourism Minister has also indicated there will be further industry funding over the coming months and we look forward to these announcements of support for our industry in the coming Federal Budget and Federal Election.”
