The Vietnam National Authority of Tourism (VNAT) organized the Vietnam Tourism Roadshow in Auckland, New Zealand. This was one of a series of promotional activities by VNAT in Australia and New Zealand in 2024.
The event took place at the JW Marriott Auckland Hotel with the presence of H.E. Mr. Nguyen Van Trung, Vietnamese Ambassador to New Zealand; Mr. Ha Van Sieu, Vice Chairman of VNAT; representatives of functional units under VNAT, artists of the Vietnam National Music, Dance and Singing Theater, representatives of local tourism management agencies, investors and tourism businesses, along with delegates, partners and businesses from New Zealand.
Addressing the event, VNAT’s Vice Chairman Ha Van Sieu shared, Vietnam and New Zealand are looking forward to celebrating 50 years of diplomatic relations in 2025. Notably, the upgrade to a Strategic Partnership in 2020 provides a golden opportunity to strengthen collaboration and development, including in the tourism sector, while also expanding business opportunities for enterprises.
VNAT’s Vice Chairman Ha Van Sieu affirmed, this event reflects the efforts and determination of both Vietnamese and New Zealand entities in proactively enhancing the multifaceted relationship between our two nations.
New Zealand is one of the world’s top tourist destinations, attracting visitors from all over the world with its spectacular and majestic natural scenery. Auckland is the busiest and most bustling city in New Zealand and is considered one of the world’s top livable cities. Auckland is also known as the most populous and culturally diverse city in the island nation of New Zealand. Known as the city of sails, Auckland has both the modern look of European architecture and the wild, classic features of hills, forests and large and small beaches, famous landmarks such as Waitemata Harbour with all kinds of sailing boats docking or the strange caves formed by volcanic lava on Rangitoto Island.
Vietnam is proud of its UNESCO-recognized world heritage sites, including Ha Long Bay, Trang An, the Imperial Citadel of Hue, and the Ancient Town of Hoi An, which each represent the rich and diverse cultural history of our nation. Along with these globally renowned landmarks, Vietnam offers warm and hospitable people, stunning natural wonders such as the magnificent Son Doong Cave, breathtaking waterfalls, and vibrant traditional festivals that take place year-round.
Major destinations like Ha Noi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, and Nha Trang continuously captivate visitors with their dynamic mix of culture, history, and scenic beauty. At the same time, emerging destinations such as Lang Son, with its ethnic minority villages, Binh Dinh’s historical sites and pristine beaches, Can Tho’s floating markets and lush Southwestern landscapes, and Soc Trang, with its unique Khmer culture, are drawing increased interest from international tourists. Moreover, Vietnam’s culinary is a true fusion of Eastern and Western flavours, offering a delightful and diverse gastronomic experience.
Share about the situation of tourist exchange, VNAT’s Vice Chairman Ha Van Sieu said, New Zealand is a promising market for Vietnamese tourism. In 2023, Vietnam welcomed nearly 34,000 New Zealand visitor arrivals, achieving a recovery rate of about 72% compared to the pre-COVID-19 period (47,100 tourist arrivals). In the first seven months of 2024, Vietnam has welcomed over 27,000 New Zealand tourist arrivals, representing a 155% increase compared to the same period in 2023.
Since 15th August 2023, Vietnam has implemented an e-visa system for citizens of all countries and territories with a validity of up to 90 days. With convenient flights that include only one stop connecting Vietnam and New Zealand, along with simple immigration procedures, attractive destinations and tourism products, and warm, hospitable people, these factors create ideal conditions to boost tourism development between the two countries.
VNAT’s Vice Chairman Ha Van Sieu believes that the Roadshow with its exceptional cultural performances, is just a small part of Vietnam’s rich cultural and tourism treasures. When visiting Vietnam, you will have the opportunity to explore much more, from unique cultural heritage sites and spectacular natural landscapes to vibrant cultural and culinary experiences.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Nguyen Van Trung, Vietnamese Ambassador to New Zealand declared, the Vietnam Tourism Roadshow in Auckland represents a significant opportunity to strengthen the bonds between Vietnam and New Zealand by showcasing the wonders of Vietnam’s rich culture, history, and natural beauty.
Ambassador Nguyen Van Trung believes that with the efforts of the entire industry and the Governments of the two countries, tourism cooperation and the relationship between the two countries will increasingly develop and deepen in the future.
At the Roadshow, delegates, distinguished guests, businesses and partners listened to an introduction to Vietnam tourism. The tourism management departments of provinces/cities and Vietnamese enterprises also bring many unique and classy tourism products and services to promote and introduce to international partners; enjoy unique traditional cultural and artistic performances performed by artists from the Vietnam National Music, Dance and Theatre Troupe and participate in the Lucky draw.
In the framework of Roadshow, businesses from both sides spent time meeting, exchanging information, seeking investment and cooperation opportunities in the tourism sector.
