Outstanding venue management team takes home three accolades for their commitment to sustainability and exemplary service at the Exhibition and Event Association of Australasia’s Awards for Excellence.

International Convention Centre Sydney (ICC Sydney), managed by ASM Global, announce it has been recognised as the exhibition and event industry’s highest achiever across three categories at the Exhibition and Event Association of Australasia’s (EEAA) annual Awards for Excellence.

The venue’s corporate social responsibility leadership and implementation of its effective Waste Management Plan won the Sustainability Initiative of the year.

Jimmy Kadwa, Senior Manager, Event Operations at ICC Sydney was celebrated as the Unsung Hero for his outstanding contribution to the exhibition and events community for over 20 years.

Jack Weatherby-Fell, ICC Sydney’s Senior Event Manager was awarded the Richard Geddes Young Achiever Award for his exceptional ability to deliver high impact, complex events.

ICC Sydney CEO and Group Director – Convention Centres, ASM Global (APAC), Geoff Donaghy said it was wonderful to see the team’s commitment to innovation, service excellence and sustainability recognised by industry peers following an extremely productive year.

“ICC Sydney’s success as Australia’s premier convention, exhibition and entertainment venue reflects our team members, such as Jimmy and Jack. We are immensely proud of their individual achievements and contribution to ICC Sydney as we work to deliver our premium services – from audio visual to culinary services, event management, sustainability and beyond.

“Part of our pre-opening team, serial innovator Jimmy has quietly moved the industry forward by collaborating with clients, contractors and internal teams, as he inspires others to join him on a journey of continual improvement.

“A highly regarded member of our event service team, Jack’s expertise is invaluable to ICC Sydney. He has been praised by his colleagues and clients alike for continuing to deliver excellent service for our clients with world class proficiency,” he said.

Donaghy continued, “ICC Sydney has a well-earned reputation for driving innovative solutions and this includes our approach to sustainability services. Delivered in line with the ASM Global ACTS social equity and global sustainability program, we have been able to leverage our partnerships, people and technology to deliver an enhanced ICC Sydney Waste Management Plan. The Plan is part of our ambition to reach a net zero emissions target by 2050 and as a proud signatory to EEAA’s Sustainable Events 2030 Pledge, we are already achieving year two goals in year one,” he said.

Exhibition and Event Association of Australasia CEO, Domenic Genua congratulated Geoff and the entire ICC Sydney team on the raft of accolades.

“My great appreciation goes to ICC Sydney for their partnership with the EEAA, enabling the Association to deliver this series of industry events. The facilities are truly exceptional, featuring the highest quality culinary service, cutting edge technology, expert technical production and event delivery team who delivered outstanding care and professionalism throughout the planning and execution of these important events,” Genua said.

Named as a finalist in the Best Venue team category, ICC Sydney was lauded for its leadership, communication and steady navigation through one of the most challenging periods in the industry’s history to return to deliver large scale in person events.

Held last night, ICC Sydney hosted the national industry awards which celebrate the exceptional work of organisers, association organisers, venues and suppliers in the exhibition and events industry.

Delivered with the support of ICC Sydney’s event management professionals, the complete event program also featured the Emerging Leaders workshops, EEAA Conference, EEAA Special General Meeting and EEAA Board of Directors meetings held from 6 to 8 December 2022.
