Wego dives into the Philippines travel market

Wego shows users an unbiased and channel neutral view of travel prices, providing a choice of booking direct with a hotel or airline, or via an online travel agent or aggregator.

SINGAPORE – Wego, the leading travel metasearch site in the Asia Pacific and Middle East turns its focus to the Philippines this week attending the first Philippine Tourism Forum and the 24th Philippine Travel Mart.

As a major growth travel market in the ASEAN region, Wego has appointed a dedicated market manager to the Philippines, extending the company’s localisation strategy to further incorporate and serve travellers, hotels, airlines and other travel industry businesses. Currently Wego, which is headquartered in Singapore, has local offices in Indonesia, India and Dubai.

“The Asia Pacific market is a strategic region for Wego and we’ve established a successful localisation program with more than 50 country sites in 30 languages worldwide in 42 currencies,” said Joachim Holte, Chief Marketing Officer for Wego. “In the Philippines we are one of only a few travel comparison sites to display rates in the Philippine Peso.”

“Following an investment of $17 million in growth capital through the completion of a Series C Preferred Share Offering, part of our strategy is to appoint dedicated market managers in our growth regions to extend our activities going forward. The Philippines is undergoing a surge in tourism development and economic growth which is being reflected in the growing number of Wego users from the country.”

The Philippines is currently the sixth largest market in terms of search revenue and seventh in terms of traffic for Wego which are significant numbers considering its user base, referring in excess of US$10 million per day in potential bookings to its travel partners.

Since the launch of www.wego.com.ph in November 2011, the top destinations out of the Philippines are Singapore, Hong Kong, Bangkok, followed by Los Angeles, New York and Dubai. Kuala Lumpur, London, Bali and San Francisco round out the top ten.

Singapore is the number one inbound city source, with Dubai, Kuala Lumpur, Abu Dhabi, Bangkok and Jakarta following. Hong Kong, and continuing the UAE connection, Jeddah and Riyadh, are followed by the popular Singapore to Cebu holiday route.

Wego searches hundreds of global travel websites including airlines, hotel chains and online travel agents, using powerful yet simple to use technology, presenting a channel neutral view of travel prices, providing users with the choice of booking direct with a hotel or airline, or via an OTA or aggregator site.

“Wego is currently welcoming more Philippine-based travel partners including hotels, OTAs and airlines who understand and value the reach that partnering with Wego can provide, both within the Philippines and beyond in our established and continuously growing markets,” added Holte.
