Number of travelers from USA and UK visiting Himalayas has increased by 27.3% between 2012 and 2017.

A research was conducted by Thrillophilia, in collaboration with HeyHimalayas, to study the travel preferences of travelers from USA and UK who traveled to Himalayas during the period of 2012-2017.

SAN DIEGO – The mountain range of Himalayas in Asia has always been a popular name among adventure enthusiasts all across the globe, especially in European and American countries. A growing influx of travelers from USA and UK for adventure activities in Himalayas has been noted during the past 5 years. Hence, A research was conducted by Thrillophilia, in collaboration with HeyHimalayas, to study the travel preferences of travelers from USA and UK who traveled to Himalayas during the period of 2012-2017.

According to the study report, the number of travelers from USA and UK visiting Himalayas has increased by 27.3% between 2012 and 2017.

One of the most interesting findings the study has resulted in is that Everest Base Camp Trek was the most preferred Himalayan trek among travelers who visited Himalayas during the period.

The study confirms that hiking is the most popular adventure activity in Himalayas among travelers from USA and UK as 26.4% of the travelers indulged in hiking during the period of 2012-2017. The second most popular adventure activity among the travelers was camping which was preferred by 9.2% of the total travelers from USA and UK.

“Hiking has emerged as a favorite among adventure enthusiasts all across the globe, and the varied terrains of Himalayan mountain range are perfect for the activity. The rising popularity of Himalayas among adventurers of USA and UK is an excellent news for both Nepal and India,” says Abhishek Daga, Co-Founder, Thrillophilia.

It has been discovered that 21.4% of the hiker preferred Everest Base Camp Trek over other treks during the period of 2012-2017. The travelers from USA alone accounted for 23.6% of the total travelers who took the trek, whereas 13.3% of them were from UK. Annapurna Base Camp Trek was the second most popular trek in Himalayas as 9.2% of the travelers chose this trek. These two prominent treks have played a significant role in increasing adventure segment of tourism in Nepal over the past few years.

In Indian Himalayas, Stok Kangri Trek was the most preferred trek among travelers from USA and UK. While, Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trek held the second position. A large number of the travelers also indulged in other Himalayan Treks like Chadar Trek, Roopkund Trek, and Hampta Pass Trek in India.

Abhishek adds, “Looking at the trend, we are confident that Himalayas are going to witness a further increase of 14% in the number of tourists from USA and UK by 2020. The rising popularity of Himalayas has inspired Thrillophilia to launch a new category to offer Himalayan adventure activities to travelers from USA and UK.
