New aquarium marks completion of Suwon MICE Complex in Korea

Located inside Suwon MICE Complex, Aqua Planet Gwanggyo boasts a total floor area of 6,500 m2 with 2,000 tons of aquarium area.

With the opening of a large-scale aquarium, the Suwon MICE Complex in Korea’s Gyeonggi Province is officially complete. The new aquarium, ‘Aqua Planet Gwanggyo’, opened its doors on January 19th, as the fifth aquarium under the nation’s biggest aquarium brand, ‘Aqua Planet’, following locations in the 63 Building, Ilsan, Yeosu, and Jeju.

Located inside Suwon MICE Complex, Aqua Planet Gwanggyo boasts a total floor area of 6,500 m2 with 2,000 tons of aquarium area. The aquarium is comprised of 9 zones, and visitors can see over 210 different types of sea creatures, including a sand tiger shark, otters and penguins. The main attraction, ‘Ocean in the City’, is the aquarium’s largest tank where visitors can see a variety of sharks along with a 2-meter black manta ray. The aquarium features experience zones including the ‘Jellyfish Lab’ and special performances 365 days of the year, including ‘Aqua Music Show’ and ‘Aqua Art show’. Safety is a top priority at Aqua Planet Gwanggyo, with thorough sanitization procedures conducted twice a day, temperature checks prior to entering the facilities, and enforcement of social distancing guidelines for visitors.

A city representative stated, “We anticipate Aqua Planet Gwanggyo will help establish the Suwon MICE Complex as a representative attraction and MICE complex of the southern Gyeonggi region.” He continued, “With concern over the spread of the Covid-19 virus, we will maintain strict social distancing and prevention measures for operation.”

The establishment of Suwon MICE Complex began in early 2019 with the opening of Suwon Convention Center, followed by the opening of Courtyard Marriott Suwon hotel and Galleria Gwanggyo Department Store in January and March of 2020. Aqua Planet Gwanggyo marks the fourth and final addition to the complex. Located an hour’s drive from Incheon International Airport and with a direct subway line that connects to Gangnam in 30 minutes, the Suwon MICE Complex will open up doors to new MICE experiences for delegates post-Covid-19.
