Myanmar drafts enchanting Myanmar Health & Safety protocols for reopening

Myanmar Tourism Marketing (MTM) initiated 4 Panels discussion to discuss about Reopening of Tourism in Myanmar

Myanmar Tourism Marketing (MTM) initiated 4 Panels discussion last week with international speakers and local experts such as Deputy Director of Singapore Tourism Board, former Minister of Hotels & Tourism, Exo Travel CEO and experts to discuss about Reopening of Tourism in Myanmar.

MTM held a series of online panel discussions in May and presented the White Paper with the support of the Development Partners Myanmar Centre for Responsible Business, Hanns Seidel Foundation and Myanmar Responsible Tourism Institute.

This White Paper offers ideas on how to mitigate the effects of COVID-19 on Myanmar’s tourism sector and provide recommendations for how to recover with confidence, through safety and security, and rethink and redesign a more resilient, balanced, responsible, and sustainable tourism sector.

This White Paper is intended to provide input for the Ministry of Hotels & Tourism’s emerging outline for the Myanmar Tourism Master Roadmap 2021–2025 which has been carefully crafted for the responsible and sustainable recovery and development of Myanmar Tourism during and post COVID periods.

“Tourism businesses will resume operations with Covid-19 prevention measures in place and under the Myanmar Tourism Strategic Recovery Roadmap, which was written at the national level with the help of international experts.” said H.E U Ohn Maung, Union Minister of Hotels & Tourism.

He added that Enchanting Myanmar Health and Safety Protocols for Safe Tourism will ensure that the sector follows all health protocols. “Training will be provided on following health guidelines” he said.

During the panel discussion, Daniela Angeja, head of Training and Corporative  Projects at Yangon Aerodrome Company Limited mentioned that the guidelines from Ministry of Health and Sports and from Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) have been promptly implemented starting from March, as well as all actions and measures foreseen at the Airport Public Health Contingency Plan, approved by DCA in April 2020,  to ensure the safety of all airport users and the handling of passengers arriving on both current international relief and domestic flights.

The company (YACL) also mentioned that it is working closely with the ACI – Airport Council International HQ (in Canada), to obtain the Airport Health Accreditation, granting that Yangon International Airport has all international requirements in place, and it is ready for the resumption of flights towards the recovery of the air transport in YIA.

Normally during the month of November Myanmar offers many festivals and one of them is famous Hot-Air Balloon festival. Last year about 300 balloons were entered in the balloon competition that annually attracts more than 20,000 spectators.  This year the festival had to be cancelled due to the COVID-19 outbreak

“Myanmar’s tourism industry has been hit hard by this pandemic. Many beautiful festivals in in the country has been cancelled. However, we have to be resilient and we have to be prepared and hope for post-virus bounce. We do hope this White Paper and panel discussions will provide guideline and principle for recovery and reopening of tourism sector with safety measures” said Mr. Myo Thwin, Myanmar Tourism Marketing Chairman.
