The Thailand Pavilion is set to showcase the pride of Thailand through digital transformation and technology towards stimulating the country’s economy and reinforcing international investors’ confidence.

The MDES and depa announce Thailand’s readiness to participate in the “World Expo 2020 Dubai”, scheduled to take place in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from 1 October 2021 to 31 March 2022. At the mega-event, the Thailand Pavilion, which includes four main exhibition halls under one roof, will be showcasing the country’s technology and digital innovation development towards stimulating Thailand’s economy and reinforcing confidence among international investors.

Mr. Chaiwut Thanakamanusorn, the Minister of Digital Economy and Society (MDES), said that the MDES, by the Digital Economy Promotion Agency (depa), is assigned by the Thai government, to showcase Thailand’s transformation into a digital hub in the World Expo 2020 Dubai. Set to be organised under the theme “Connecting Minds, Creating the Future,” the planet’s largest innovation fair encourages innovation and technology sharing and fosters cooperation from around the world towards building a sustainable future, with up to 192 participating countries. Teaming up to highlight the country’s innovation-based development, the MDES has been working closely with key alliances and organisational partners from the public and private sectors to design the exhibitions and create a series of activities that will be displayed at the Thailand Pavilion from 1 October 2021 to 31 March 2022, in Dubai, UAE.

“The World Expo 2020 Dubai provides an excellent platform for Thailand, not only to showcase the country’s traditional charm but reinforce confidence in Thailand’s potentials and readiness reflected through the digital technology implementation, digital infrastructure development as well as public health systems. The country’s participation in this mega event is also expected to bring new opportunities towards revitalising the Thai economy, stimulate tourism, promote international trade and investment, and sustain good relations with member countries participating in the show,” said the MDES Minister.

Ms. Ajarin Pattanapanchai, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (MDES), who works as the Commissioner General of Section for Thailand Pavilion, said that the World Expo 2020 Dubai is ranked in the world’s top three largest expos. At the show, the Thailand Pavilion is exhibited under the theme “Mobility for the Future,” telling stories of Thailand’s creative advances in transportation, logistics, digital connectivity and personal mobility through four main exhibitions. Hall 1: Thai Mobility explores the history of Thailand’s transport and its cultural connection, with replicas of the Royal Thai Barge “Suphannahong” and the Royal Chariot on display; Hall 2: Mobility of Life presents animated movies on Thailand’s legacy as a land of rich agriculture and a hub for international trade since centuries ago; Hall 3: Mobility of the Future explores how Thailand is moving towards a brighter tomorrow by developing advanced infrastructure and innovations in digital technology. The stories are illustrated through 360° animated movie; and Hall 4: Heart of Mobility shows how people are at the centre of Thailand’s mobility story. Telling stories through short films, visitors will learn the personal stories of foreigners who have come to Thailand to travel, to do business and even to live.

In addition, visitors at the Thailand Pavilion will have the chance to enjoy the authentic taste of Thai food, selections of craft products from Thailand, and contemporary Thai performances under the theme “THAI ICONIC”. Furthermore, there will be a series of special activities and exhibitions organised by public and private organisations throughout the 6-month event.

The working group of the Thailand Pavilion, which has put in the best efforts in planning and monitoring the construction progress, reaffirms the readiness of the pavilion at the World Expo 2020 Dubai. A test run of all operating systems will take place at the end of September to get the exhibition ready for visitors on 1 October 2021.

“As depa is a newly established agency, we have come across challenges in managing the global-scale event ranging from budgeting and planning to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, which has caused a one-year delay for the World Expo 2020 Dubai. After all, we have made it through these difficulties and are very proud to represent our country and convey Thailand’s stories on technology and digital innovations combined with the Thainess in the global arena.”

Dr. Nuttapon added that apart from the full cooperation from different parties, depa received great support from Thailand’s digital & tech startups, who got on board to fulfil the exhibition’s readiness in all dimensions. Above all, depa wishes to express sincere gratitude to the people of Thailand for all encouragement and support for #TeamThailand through social media platforms.
