Kuala Lumpur will be the host city for the 62nd International Statistical Institute World Statistics Congress 2019

Supported by Malaysia Convention & Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB), an agency under the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia, the upcoming congress which is the first time in Malaysia will be officiated by YAB Tun Dr. Mahathir Bin Mohammad, the Prime Minister of Malaysia.

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia — Kuala Lumpur will be the host city for the 62nd International Statistical Institute World Statistics Congress 2019 (ISI WSC 2019), from 18 – 23 August 2019 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC). 

Supported by Malaysia Convention & Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB), an agency under the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia, the upcoming congress which is the first time in Malaysia will be officiated by YAB Tun Dr. Mahathir Bin Mohammad, the Prime Minister of Malaysia. The congress will be attended by some 2,500 delegates comprising of National Statistical Offices (NSO), statistical expert and professionals, academics, policy makers and representatives of relevant international statistical organisations from all over the world. 

The 62nd ISI WSC is an olympic institutions of statisticians offering an extensive scientific programme including numerous parallel sessions, training sessions, workshops and plenary sessions with the best international experts in the various fields of statistics. Themed ‘Come, Connect, Create’, the congress will serve as a platform to discuss key issues concern with development, challenges and innovation in elevating consciousness towards the new normal of statistical world. 

“I am proud to announce that Malaysia has won the bid to host the upcoming 62nd ISI WSC 2019, which was taken place at the 60th ISI WSC 2015 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. We managed to impress the ISI executive committee and the council with our compelling proposal which ensures benefits to be gained both for the region and international statistical community. In addition, we greatly appreciate the help of Mr. Vijay N. Nair, former President of the International Statistical Institute from Malaysia, who is currently residing in the US,” said Datuk Zulkefli Hj. Sharif, Chief Executive Officer of MyCEB. 

“Following the 61st ISI WSC 2017 in Marrakech, Morocco, Malaysia was officially announced as the next congress destination host. The announcement was accompanied by MyCEB’s showcase of Malaysia as the preferred business events destination. MyCEB has worked closely with the ISI committee to ensure the organization and execution of the 62nd ISI WSC in Kuala Lumpur would be delivered at top quality. I look forward to welcoming the delegates to Kuala Lumpur and encourage them to expand their horizon and experience what treasures Asia has to offer throughout Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak as well,” he continued. 

As the congress venue is located at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, delegates are encouraged to explore the iconic Petronas Twin Towers, to shop and savour to Malaysia’s best culinary spots. They will be able to discover Malaysia’s unique wonders, attractions and cultures as well as business events or MICE capacity to the participants and the world.

The 62nd ISI WSC 2019 is collaborated with the Department of Statistics Malaysia, Bank Negara Malaysia and Malaysia Institute of Statistics. Among the highlights of the congress would be the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme such as tree planting activity mooted by MyCEB as part of Let’s Meet & Green campaign at Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM) on 17 August 2019.
