Foraging Cashews to making delicious Urrak in the wild, Novotel Goa Candolim and Novotel Goa Resort and Spa offer a slice of Goa not tasted before

The trail educates the guests on picking ripe cashew apples from the ground, separating the fruit and nut and crushing the fruit which is then followed by extracting the non-alcoholic drink from the cashew fruit called ‘Niro’.

The humble cashew has been the talk of the town in recent years. From just a coastal fruit to a superfood, the journey of cashew has come a long way. A flavourful fruit steeped deep in the history and culture of Goa, this journey curated by Novotel Goa Candolim and Novotel Goa Resort and Spa will take you beyond the idyllic beaches and nightlife of Goa for a one-of-a-kind experience. The month-long festivity is a complete journey of the fruit from farm to table and is ideal for families, groups or just enthusiasts alike.

The day-long trip commences at 8:00 am from the hotel to NV Ecofarm in Goa which is spread across 60 acres of lush red soiled earth just 1.5 hours from Candolim. Guests would get an experience right from the harvest to the preparation of the fruit and nut which is later used for various purposes.

The trail educates the guests on picking ripe cashew apples from the ground, separating the fruit and nut and crushing the fruit which is then followed by extracting the non-alcoholic drink from the cashew fruit called ‘Niro’. ‘Niro’ is served as a welcome drink to all the guests and further processed to create the prominent Goan alcoholic drink ‘Feni’. One even gets to try their hands on a cocktail with ‘Urrak’ produced by the first distillation of the cashew juice. The trail also showcases the traditional roasting of the cashew nut. It then takes you to a nearby cashew nut factory that displays the commercial processing of the nut. One can also purchase cashews straight from the factory.

Mr. Ranju Singh, Complex General Manager- Novotel Goa Candolim and Novotel Goa Resort & Spa stated, “The cashew trail is a seasonal experience which distinguishes itself from other regular things to do in Goa. For all those keen on the Goan culture and history, it is an unforgettable journey that leaves an impression to last a lifetime. The farm to the table experience of the fruit is a unique one and the process is fascinating. With the pandemic ebbing and travels opening up, we have already seen a surge of requests for this and are optimistic to make full use of the season ahead.”
