Australia’s Convention bureau network strengthened

Whitsundays, Hill Inlet & Whitehaven Beach

Tourism Whitsundays, representing one of Queensland’s most premium business events regions, will contribute directly to the strategic direction of Australia’s business events industry through its membership of AACB.

Australia’s convention bureau network has been strengthened with the addition of Tourism Whitsundays, expanding Association of Australian Convention Bureaux (AACB) representation to 18 leading business events destinations – the highest number in the association’s 36-year history.

AACB President, Michael Matthews said, “We warmly welcome Tourism Whitsundays to our convention bureaux network, strengthening our national business events representation.”

Tourism Whitsundays, representing one of Queensland’s most premium business events regions, will contribute directly to the strategic direction of Australia’s business events industry through its membership of AACB.

Tourism Whitsundays CEO, Tash Wheeler said, “This is a very exciting time for The Whitsundays. Our membership with AACB will support the recovery and longer-term growth of our region’s visitor economy.

“This engagement will also raise the profile of our exceptional business events offering in The Whitsundays the Heart of Business Events and enhance opportunities for our operators,” Ms Wheeler said.

AACB CEO, Andrew Hiebl added, “As COVID-19 continues to challenge the business events industry through lockdowns, border closures and gathering restrictions, the need to collaborate and learn from each other has never been more important.”

Insights from AACB’s Forward Calendar highlight the important role convention bureaux play in local recovery, with growth in the number of new domestic business events secured recording a 25 per cent increase compared to the position in July 2020.

“This result marks a significant boost for the 1,800 tourism and events businesses represented by convention bureaux across the country, reliant on income from these bid wins, and builds future confidence,” Mr Hiebl said.
