Alibaba’s Fliggy brings Chinese tourists to European landmarks – Virtually

Alibaba’s livestreaming technology has become the go-to tool for tourist attractions worldwide to engage with Chinese tourists and encourage them to visit once global travel can safely resume.

Alibaba’s travel services platform Fliggy recently worked with tourism bureaus from Finland, France, Germany, Serbia and the UK to launch a series of travel livestreams and help them stay connected to Chinese tourists during the pandemic. Tour guides and representatives gave virtual tours of both landmarks and lesser-known locations in these respective countries, and shared tips for future travelers. For example, curators from the Palace of Versailles, which has been closed for two months, gave an exclusive two-hour “VIP tour,” allowing viewers to visit the palace up close and even see areas that are normally off-limits to regular visitors. Within the first five minutes of the virtual tour, more than 10,000 viewers tuned into the livestream.

Alibaba’s livestreaming technology has become the go-to tool for tourist attractions worldwide to engage with Chinese tourists and encourage them to visit once global travel can safely resume. Since February, Fliggy has hosted more than 25,000 travel livestreams to over 70 million viewers. Fliggy plans to partner with travel influencers from over 30 countries to showcase destinations around the world through over 100 livestreaming sessions a day.
