Accelerating demand for road trips prompts Indian firm’s UK trade expansion

Accelerating demand for one of the longest bus journeys in the world and other cross-continental road trips has prompted one of the world’s fastest-growing travel companies to expand into the UK on its tenth anniversary.

India-based Adventures Overland, which operates 25 different road trips across the globe in 80 countries, is laying down roots in the UK after generating more than 50,000 enquiries in one week for its Bus To London concept, which sees holidaymakers able to travel 20,000 kilometres either way between Delhi, India and London by coach via 18 countries over two months.

Plans for Adventures Overland’s UK expansion have been turbo charged by a recent US$ 1 million (£900,000) third party investment in India, which in part will assist with the firm’s marketing efforts in the UK as it strives to more than double its existing customer base of 1,000 travellers a year by the end of 2023.

Tushar explained: “These holidays are not for the everyday holidaymaker, but for seasoned travellers who are seeking to see overlooked parts of the world, so we were overwhelmed when we saw just how many people expressed their interest in participating in our ‘Bus To London’ concept.

“The interest we received was global, but a significant proportion came from the UK, which has given us encouragement to set up here and trial a variety of other road trips.

“We are seeing demand being driven by over-25s with a mixture of solo travellers, couples, senior citizens and even families keen to explore as many places as possible in a short period of time.

“It is a well-known fact that road trips are the best way to explore a country or region. Once you are in the driving seat the feeling of being a foreigner in a new place goes away.”

Road trips being made available in the UK by the end of 2022 will include packages that will see Brits able to fly to India in 2023 to take part in two-week road trips around the Himilayas, Nepal, and Rajasthan.

A road trip from London to Delhi is planned for April 2023 with the return leg happening in August 2023, as is a repeat of the Bus To London concept in September 2023.

Tushar added: “Every single route in each country has been vetted to ensure that the journey is seamless. We take charge of documentation, paperwork, visas and permits to ensure that the entire focus of participants is on experiencing the journey.

“We ensure an experienced English-speaking local guide is travelling with the group at all hours to ensure personal safety, smooth communication, and travel.

“We are also conscious that as our activity increases to meet the appetite of travel enthusiasts, so does our impact on the environment, and as such we are working with non-government organisation, Green Himalayas, to plant enough trees in the locations we have visited to offset emissions.”
