Wyndham Hotels & Resorts strengthens position in Asia Pacific with strong 2022 performance

  • Wyndham Grand Shanxi Xiaohe Xincheng, one of the three new hotels that opened in Shanxi, China.

World’s largest hotel franchisor expands in APAC with the addition of six new brands, 169 signed hotels and 132 new openings – adding more than 18,000 rooms as it closed out 2022.

SINGAPORE – Wyndham Hotels & Resorts announced strong growth in Asia Pacific as it closed out 2022, diversifying its offerings for guests and owners across the region.

Highlights for the year included 169 new hotel signings, 132 new hotel openings and the addition of more than 18,000 new rooms, resulting in 5% percent net room growth across Southeast Asia and 10% net room growth across our direct franchise and managed properties in Greater China.

The company also opened its first hotels in new markets – including Xiong’an, China; Sapporo, Japan; and Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam – while bringing six of its brands into new countries, introducing brands like Ramada Encore by Wyndham in Vietnam, Microtel by Wyndham in New Zealand, and LaQuinta by Wyndham in China. Together, the additions bring Wyndham’s Asia Pacific brand portfolio to 14 brands as it furthers its mission of making hotel travel possible for all.

“This last year was one of extenuating circumstances, but our flexibility, adaptability and resilient owner partnerships helped us achieve incredible success. Approximately 30% of all new signings for the year came from existing owners – a tremendous testament to the confidence that our partners have in Wyndham and in our portfolio of world-class brands,” said Joon Aun Ooi, President, Asia Pacific, Wyndham Hotels and Resorts.

He added, “As the demand for bleisure travel continues to grow, we will continue seeking opportunities to introduce new brands from our global portfolio, all while expanding our reach, distribution, and Wyndham Rewards member base to help drive sustainable growth and return for hotel owners.”

Among the hotels that opened in December 2022: a cluster of three new hotels – Wyndham Grand Shanxi Xiaohe Xincheng, Wyndham Shanxi Xiaohe Xincheng and La Quinta by Wyndham Shanxi Xiaohe Xincheng – offering more than 1,000 rooms.

Wyndham’s Growth Trajectory in 2023

Wyndham remains focused on continued expansion across Asia Pacific in 2023, all while supporting its hotels, owners, partners, and guests as countries across the region fully reopen their borders. More recently, marquee introductions such as TRYP by Wyndham Tory Street Wellington in February and TRYP by Wyndham Pulteney Street Adelaide in March respectively, coupled with upcoming openings slated across Asia Pacific demonstrate robust long-term pipeline of directly franchised and managed hotels.

Wyndham hotels across Asia Pacific participate in Wyndham Rewards, the number one hotel rewards program as ranked by readers of USA TODAY. The program currently has more than 100 million enrolled members around the globe.
