Thailand’s marriage equality bill takes effect in 2025, reinforcing the country’s inclusive reputation and LGBTQ+ tourism initiatives like Go Thai Be Free.

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) New York Office celebrated the landmark passage of The Kingdom’s marriage equality bill. The bill was officially announced by the Royal Gazette on September 24, 2024 and set to take effect in January of 2025. This legislation allows marriage equality to become a reality in Thailand, marking a historic milestone for equal rights in The Kingdom of Thailand. The groundbreaking bill further solidifies Thailand’s reputation as a progressive and inclusive destination, with TAT New York implementing Go Thai Be Free, a portal, social community, and team dedicated to the preferences and needs of LGBTQ+ travelers since 2013.

Thailand has long been regarded as an LGBTQ-welcoming nation, proudly inviting all people — no matter how they identify, and whom they love, to feel free in Thailand. The Kingdom welcomes all with a vibrant array of LGBTQ+ events alongside LGBTQ-friendly hotels and resorts. Visitors are invited to express themselves freely while immersing in the destination’s rich culture, savoring its delicious cuisine, enjoying unique local experiences, and indulging in unparalleled luxury.

Today, Thailand writes a new chapter in its storied history. We are thrilled to witness this historic moment of equality and inclusivity,” said Chompu Marusachot, Director of the Tourism Authority of Thailand New York Office. “This momentous step forward not only strengthens our commitment to diversity but also reinforces Thailand’s reputation as a welcoming and accepting destination for all travelers.”

As Thailand continues to embrace its role as a global leader in LGBTQ+ equality, TAT remains dedicated to not only promoting responsible and sustainable tourism practices that respect and celebrate diversity in all its forms, but also ensures LGBTQ+ travelers feel welcomed and understood. A trailblazer in the tourism industry, TAT has a dedicated portal, social community and team called Go Thai Be Free, which was created in 2013 to prioritize the preferences and needs of LGBTQ+ travelers so they can easily plan trips to The Kingdom, while feeling seen and welcome.
