ITE Hong Kong 2024: A successful return with new records and expanded offerings

ITE Hong Kong 2024

ITE Hong Kong 2024 set new records in scale, exhibitors, and visitors, highlighting theme travel, resuming B2B services, and hosting new trade events at HKCEC from June 13-16.

The International Travel Expo (ITE) Hong Kong 2024 was successfully held from June 13 to 16 at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre (HKCEC). Advancing on all fronts, this year’s event set new records in scale, number of exhibitors, and visitors, resumed more B2B services, and introduced new trade events and special displays on themed travel, thus continuing its trajectory towards full recovery.

The Opening Ceremony

The event’s opening ceremony was officiated by Ms. Joanne Chu, Acting Commissioner for Tourism, who delivered a keynote speech, cut the ribbon, and led the VIP tour. The ceremony was attended by approximately 400 guests, including tourism officials, diplomatic corps, industry leaders, media, exhibitors, buyers, and trade visitors.

New Records

Despite challenges posed by repeated rainstorm warnings, ITE 2024 surpassed pre-pandemic records, with an 18% increase in buyers and trade visitors, a 12% rise in public visitors, and over 500 exhibitors. Notably, 20 new exhibiting countries and regions (ECR) participated, and the event featured over 80 travel seminars.

Resumed Hosting and Regional Engagement

ITE 2024 resumed hosting non-Hong Kong buyers, facilitating business matchmaking and hosting trade delegations from Guangdong cities in the Greater Bay Area. This year, regional visitors accounted for 46.4% of all trade visitors, with a significant presence from mainland China and other parts of Asia.

Extensive Media Coverage

The event attracted extensive media coverage, with a record attendance at the pre-opening press conference. This resulted in widespread media exposure before and during the show.

Highly International Exhibitors

With 515 exhibitors, 87% of whom were from outside Hong Kong, ITE 2024 showcased a diverse range of destinations. China had the largest presence, with various provinces and cities staging their own pavilions, along with significant participation from Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau.

ITE Highlights Theme Travel

ITE has long promoted in-depth and themed travel. This year, themes such as Sustainable Tourism, Ice & Snow Tourism, New Destinations, and Night Markets were prominently featured through specific displays and info/photo corners.

New Trade Events

New trade events included the “Industry Forum on Technology Propelling Sustainability,” seminars on major changes for travelers crossing EU borders, and networking opportunities with key opinion leaders (KOL).

Great Shopping and Fun on Public Days

ITE offered a vibrant shopping and entertainment experience for visitors, with cultural performances, games, lucky draws, and interactive sessions. The event catered to premium free independent travelers (FIT), who are known for taking multiple outbound holidays and planning to spend more on travel in the coming year.

Positive Feedback Despite Weather Challenges

Despite heavy rainstorm warnings during the event, exhibitors reported satisfactory results. A local Chinese business daily highlighted that exhibitors experienced strong demand and significant business growth, with some even exceeding expectations.

Looking Ahead to ITE Hong Kong 2025

ITE 2024 was strongly supported by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the People’s Republic of China, Hong Kong Tourism Board, Travel Industry Council of Hong Kong, and Macao Government Tourism Office. The next ITE Hong Kong is scheduled for June 12 to 15, 2025, at the same venue.
