Hong Kong Polytechnic University’s tourism students won big at a national competition, taking home the second prize and awards for best rural revitalization project and TikTok content.
The School of Hotel and Tourism Management (SHTM) of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University is delighted to announce that its students are again recognised for their talent, creativity and dedication by winning remarkable awards.
Selina Lao, Heidi Tan, Kehan Wang and Guanyu Zhao, students in the SHTM’s BSc in Tourism and Events Management programme, made their mark at the 2nd China University Student Tourism Management Virtual Simulation Competition held in Guangzhou, Mainland China, on 15-19 May 2024. Together with Dr Richard Qiu, SHTM Assistant Professor and supervisor of the student team, they won a total of four awards:
- Second Prize in the Virtual Simulation Competition
- Best Rural Revitalisation Project Proposal
- Third Prize on the TikTok Clips Contest
- Excellent Supervisor Award
The SHTM student team was among the 225 teams that participated in the final round of the competition.
With an aim to enhancing experimental teaching, improving teaching quality and fostering high-end talent with comprehensive and practical tourism management skills, the Competition encouraged students to apply their knowledge and engage in theoretical learning and practical exploration. Building upon the success of the previous competition, the 2nd China University Student Tourism Management Virtual Simulation Competition successfully facilitated exchange between faculty members and students from Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan and Mainland universities, establishing a brand of disciplinary competitions across the region.
The SHTM goes beyond textbooks, offering a vibrant calendar of student activities that empowers them to excel.
